October 2008

Building relationships, flooding Bakersfield with the love of Christ!

From the Executive Director:Kevin McNece
As you will see from reading this October newsletter, there are so many needs to be met in our community.  The Lord has used Flood to directly impact the physical, emotional and spritual well being of the young women and children profiled this month.   We are in need of your financial support to continue to meet the ongoing physical needs of those attending the Saturday Night Outreach.  Will you prayerfully consider making a donation to Flood today?   At the bottom of the newsletter we have two ways to financially support the ministry: securely online directly through the website or by mailing in a donation to the mailing address.

Giving Back
Amber and Bridge Doing it God's Way

Amber and Bridge

Amber is a single mother who has had many challenges in her past.  She became connected to the Flood ministry after being homeless and entering Hannah's Haven.  Amber shared her story with Teen Challenge women in August.  She revealed how difficult the path of addiction has been but that she does not give up and even if she back slides she trusts the Lord to lead her to victory again.  It was a blessing to hear her share the way God provided an apartment and a job through Flood volunteers.  Amber works at Carl's Jr and is attending New Well Worship Center.  Amber also volunteers at the Bakersfield Pregnancy Center each week.  Recovery is a daily process with failures and triumphs.
29 Baptized!

Harold Baptism

One of our faithful attenders, Harold, baptized by Pastor Kevin from Calvary Bible Church.  On September 6, twenty-nine new believers followed the Lord in baptism.  It was a joy to witness their obedience.
BUILDING UPDATE

Warehouse
Flood will be seeking a parking modification from the Planning Commission at the City of Bakersfield on October 14, 2008.  Pending approval, we will  start construction to improve restrooms and add a conference room to the warehouse at 34th and Jewett.   The office is in full swing and we were blessed with donations of fabulous desks and chairs in September.

Home for 3!
Melissa, Brayden and Aniya

Melissa, Brayden and Aniya

Melissa and her two beautiful children were evicted because of a foreclosure type situation at her apartment complex and was not able to find anyone to help or anywhere to go, leaving her homeless.   Melissa was attending Flood and a volunteer learned of her difficult situation.  Through an arrangement with a landlord, Flood was able to place Melissa, Aniya (7 months old) and Brayden (2 years old) in a one bedroom apartment that she will stretch to afford.  Melissa accepted Christ two weeks ago and was baptized at the Kern River Revival put on by Church Without Walls last week.   The father of Melissa's children is locked up and being a single mother at 23 is tough.  It is a  joy for us to see Melissa turn to Jesus in these difficult days.
Tough Times Easier

Flood will pickup your large household items to benefit those transitioning from homelessness!   Here are a couple of quotes from families blessed by Flood's pick up services

"Our family was of one mind in its decision to donate items
from our mother's estate to Flood and its ministry to those in need. Please express that we were especially appreciative of the
expeditious and professional way the members of Flood conducted
themselves when removing items from the property."
Thank you, Paul Hirst

"Flood was great to work with.  My father had some furniture and other items he wanted to donate and after one phone call, two gentlemen, Tim and Robert, showed up with a trailer the next day and took everything away.  They were pleasant and a pleasure to work with.  I'll definitely call Flood again to help this awesome ministry!"

A Cry for Help!    Josh
Caty and Joshua were in need of a place for Joshua, six years old,  to be cared for while Caty was in the hospital with an advanced infection this past month.  First she turned to those in her apartment community and they stepped up assisting with care for Joshua but when the situation became more long term, Flood stepped in to help.  Through the relationship established between Flood and Child Protective Services a voluntary transfer was established for temporary foster care for Joshua.  A family involved in Flood stepped up to be that foster family.  As a result of the advanced infection, Caty's hand was eventually amputated.  She is so grateful for all the prayers and support.  She is home now thanking and trusting the LORD for each day.   Caty also attends Barrel of Hope in Oildale.
Everyone at Flood Bakersfield Ministries Inc, would like to express our thanks and deep appreciation to all those who support us prayerfully, financially and by giving of their time.  This ministry could not exist without your support.  If you would like more information please check out our website www.floodbako.com where secure on line giving is available or contact us at our office (661) 32-FLOOD.
