Greetings!
DCCF Logo
At the height of the passion surrounding this summer's gubernatorial recall election, a most disturbing fact was uncovered by a Marquette University poll - 29 percent of Wisconsin residents said they lost friends, or stopped speaking to friends, because they disagreed over whom to support with their vote.

That statistic came to mind over the last few weeks as I sat in my living room listening to rival political conventions. I have a terrible habit of watching television with a laptop close at hand so if one bores me I can always turn to the other. During the conventions my computer was all aflutter with email messages, Tweets, Facebook posts, and every other kind of social media telling me that whomever was speaking at that moment was either a blessing from heaven above or sent to destroy America by the devil himself.

That's how ugly our political discourse has become - if it is even still worthy of the name "discourse."

Visit the Peninsula Pulse to read the rest of the story.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank the major sponsors to the enormously successful Celebrate Women! Luncheon in August. Please visit us online to see a few pictures of the event.

Enjoy this beautiful fall day in Door County! Bret Bicoy

Guide to Endowments
The Community Foundation is pleased to announce the publication of the Guide to Endowments at the Door County Community Foundation, Inc.

The Guide highlights different charities so families have options to consider when giving back - either today or through their estate plans. We encourage families to download their copy today!

The Guide is also an excellent tool for estate planning professionals when talking with their clients about Door County charities. We're happy to send attorneys, accountants, investment advisors, and trust officers a supply of Guides (and display holder) for use in their office. If you'd like a stack for your clients, contact us at the Community Foundation.

This is just another way the Community Foundation is encouraging people to give back to sustain the community we love!

Endowments in Action:  Door County Folk Alliance Endowment Fund

The Community Foundation is honored to administer the Door County Folk Alliance Endowment Fund.

The Door County Folk Alliance promotes and builds a stronger community through music and dance. Historically, early settlers gathered with their neighbors to celebrate with music. Today, people of all ages gather together to dance to traditional folk tunes performed by local musicians.

DC Folk Alliance

Dances are held at various locations throughout Door County about once a month. All dances are taught by the caller so everyone can participate, regardless of their previous experience. The dances are easy to learn and dancers are not required to bring a partner. The dance forms include Contra dances (long way lines), circle dances, mixers, quadrilles (squares), and a few waltzes and polkas. Occasionally family dances are held for those with young children.

Barn dancing is fun, easy and invigorating! The heart and soul of the barn dance is the sense of community that comes from dancing with friends and neighbors. A cheerful atmosphere of goodwill is shared by the dancers and musicians.

P
lease consider incorporating gift to the Door County Folk Alliance Endowment Fund in your estate plans. Speak with your attorney, accountant or other estate planning professional. Or contact the Community Foundation and we'd be glad to help facilitate your generosity.

M
any charities entrust the administration of their endowment funds to the Community Foundation.

I
t's a safe and responsible way to manage endowed gifts, long-term assets or operational reserves. The non-profit community also counts on the Community Foundation's planned giving expertise to facilitate gifts into their endowments. By aggregating these assets under the umbrella of the Community Foundation, economies of scale allow for a far more diversified investment portfolio and lower investment fees than any of the charities could achieve on their own.
