Greetings!

DCCF Logo New

In March, I was travelling for three of the month's four workweeks. Part of that time was spent in Florida visiting with a few of Door County's generous donors. For the remainder of my time away I was in Hawaii, visiting my father for his 89th birthday.

So there I was, spending March in two of the most coveted winter zip codes in the United States. Yet as each day passed, I found myself longing more and more to return home to Door County. What is it about this place that keeps us here or brings us back each year? I'm sure the answer to that question is different for each of us, but on my final plane ride home, I tried to define what makes Door County special to me.

Arts Fund Applications Now Available

The Door County Community Foundation  is inviting local charities to submit applications for financial support from the Community Foundation's Arts Fund.  "The arts describe a broad range of creative activities which can stimulate thought and inspire the soul," said Bret Bicoy, President & CEO of the Community Foundation. "Therein is the purpose of the Community Foundation's Arts Fund.  We hope to promote and celebrate the arts as an integral part of the health of our community."

The Community Foundation's Arts Fund supports creative charitable activities in Door County that use the arts to enrich our community and touch the lives of the people of Door County.  "We certainly welcome applications from arts related charities," says Bicoy. "But we're also looking for ideas from other kinds of charities that want to use the arts in their more traditional programming."

Applications must be received in the Community Foundation's offices by Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 4 p.m. More information and application materials are available online.  If you have questions or would like feedback on your idea prior to submitting an application, contact Christine Henkel.

The Education Fund is one of the Community Foundation's Community Impact Funds.  To learn about how you can include a gift in your estate plans to forever to support this critical issue - or any other issue important to you - contact Bret Bicoy or call (920) 746-1786.

June 11th Picnic on the Farm with the Women's Fund

The Women's Fund has teamed up with Tom and Sharon Lutsey of Waseda Farms to present a free home-style picnic for Door County's working moms and their families on Monday, June 11 from 4pm to 7pm.  The picnic is free, but space is limited.  Call (920) 333-1580 to reserve your space.

Women's Fund - Waseda Farms"This is our way to say thank you to the working mothers of Door County," says Sally O'Brien, Co-Chair of the Women's Fund of Door County. "A family led by a woman is 3 ½ times more likely to live in poverty than other Door County families. The studies also show that Door County women working full-time earn 30% less than men."

"The Women's Fund wants to give all our hard working moms a chance to spend a free evening of fun with their kids," says O'Brien.

The Picnic on the Farm is targeted at Door County's working moms with kids age 12 and younger - but the entire family is invited. We'll have plenty of hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream. There will be hayrides, face painting, fun with the animals, and entertainment by Ben Larsen. All you need to bring are the kids and a blanket to sit on.

Call (920) 333-1580 to reserve your space and then join us at Waseda Farms - 7281 Logerquist Road in Baileys Harbor - on June 11th.

Visit the Women's Fund website to learn more about how you can give back to ensure that Door County women and girls thrive.

Boys and Girls Club of Door County Endowment Fund

The Door County Community Community Foundation is honored to be able to administer the Endowment Fund of the Boys and Girls Club of Door County.

A lot of people know Door County as vacation land.  While that is true, there is also a lot of working people whose hard work year round helps make Door County the beautiful place that it is. Many of these working people have families and an increasing number of them rely on the services such those offered by the Boys & Girls Club of Door County.

As the old saying goes, "it takes a community to raise a child."  An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that there is a place to go during these times. The Boys & Girls Club of Door County offers that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.

Please consider incorporating gift to the Boys & Girls Club Endowment Fund in your estate plans. Speak with your attorney, accountant or other estate planning professional. Or contact the Community Foundation and we'd be glad to help facilitate your generosity

Many charities entrust the administration of their endowment funds to the Community Foundation.

It's a safe and responsible way to manage endowed gifts, long-term assets or operational reserves. The non-profit community also counts on the Community Foundation's planned giving expertise to facilitate gifts into their endowments. By aggregating these assets under the umbrella of the Community Foundation, economies of scale allow for a far more diversified investment portfolio and lower investment fees than any of the charities could achieve on their own.
