Giving Matters

Community Foundation

Greetings!

Businesses like Main Street Market, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Pinkert Law Firm, and Inge Alverson Bacon CPA, all give back because the people that run them are generous themselves. The personal rewards of sharing of their time and financial resources pay enormous dividends in terms of good will and better friendships. These folks would be generous even if no one ever knew what they were doing.

But for some companies, the personal rewards aren't enough to motivate them to share their blessings. Thankfully, even if you don't want to give for personal reasons, there is ample evidence to show that doing "good" in the community is also good for your business.

The second annual Do Well Do Good Public Opinion Survey was recently released, and it continues to demonstrate the strong link between the charitable nature of a company and the consumer's willingness to buy their products or services.

Naturally, health and human service charities are invited to apply. However, the Community Foundation also seeks ideas from arts, environmental and other types of charities that might want to explore using their talents in a health and human service context.

Applications must be received in the Community Foundation's offices by Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 4 p.m. More information and application materials are available online.  If you have questions or would like feedback on your idea prior to submitting an application, contact Christine Henkel.

The Health & Human Needs Fund is one of the Community Foundation's Community Impact Funds. These grants are only possible because of the generosity of the people of Door County. To learn about how you can include a gift in your estate plans to forever to support this critical issue - or any other issue important to you - contact Bret Bicoy or call (920) 746-1786.

Scholarship Applications are due on March 20

The Door County Community Foundation's 2012 Scholarship Applications are due on March 20th.

Many of the Community Foundation's scholarships are administered in partnership with Door County schools and decisions as to the recipients are made there by school professionals.

However, there are a handful of scholarships for students who graduate from Sturgeon Bay, Gibraltar and Sevastopol in which the selection process is independent of local schools.

Visit the Community Foundation's website to learn more about these scholarships and to apply. All applications must be received in the Community Foundation's offices by Tuesday, March 20th at 4:00 p.m.

And if you're interested in establishing a scholarship today, or as a part of your estate plans, contact Bret Bicoy at (920) 746-1786.
