Greetings! |

(The following is an open letter to people visiting Door County that appeared in the Peninsula Pulse)
Dear Friends,
We cannot tell you how pleased we are that you decided to visit us in Door County. Whether you're here for a few days, or come back frequently all season, we are so very glad that you've come.
The pessimists among us will say that we value your visit to Door County only insofar as you are the engine that drives our economy. Indeed, our tourist industry is the major force that provides jobs and builds wealth in our community. But as is so often the case, the pessimists are only looking at half of the story.
We are proud to be residents of Door County. This is a very special place to us, and we're happy to share it when visited by good people like you.
I'm going to make an unusual request of you. If you treasure your time in Door County, ponder a bit about how that affection might be transformed into action.
Consider making a gift to charity during your stay with us in Door County this season.
(Read the complete the story in the Peninsula Pulse).
Althought it's still officially a few weeks away, the weather outside reminds us that Fall is just around the corner. Get ready for our annual explosion of Fall colors!

| Youth Service and Theatrical Mini-Grants Now Available |
The Door County Service Club Coalition has launched a pilot mini-grant program to complement its already successful Youth as Resources Grants. Youth groups, schools and local charities are invited to apply for a Youth in Theatre mini-grant.
The Youth in Theatre Grant program provides financial support to Door County theatrical productions in which youth play a significant role in its production and/or on-stage performance.
This new mini-grant initiative is in addition to the traditional Youth as Resources program which provides financial support to projects in which young people use their skills, talents and abilities to serve or educate others.
The Youth in Theatre program has application deadlines of October 3rd and December 1st. The Youth as Resources program's deadlines are October 3rd, December 1st, March 1st, and May 1st.
Read the guidelines and download the application materials on the Community Foundation's website. Decisions are generally made within three weeks of these application deadlines. Applicants are strongly encouraged to speak with Christine Henkel at (920) 746-1786 prior to the submission of an application.

Celebrate Women! Luncheon is a Success... and a Deadline Approaches
|
Last month, the Women's Fund of Door County hosted its second annual Celebrate Women! Luncheon with the theme "Reach for the Stars." Once again, the event was sold out with more than 300 people attending. Visit the Women's Fund website to view some images of this enormously successful event.
As a reminder, the Women's Fund of Door County is accepting applications to its Fall 2011 Grant Cycle.
Priority will be given to applications that (1) provide education and information, (2) build self-esteem and dignity, (3) support solutions for critical issues, and/or (4) are research-based and data-driven with a focus on solutions.
Applications must arrive at the Community Foundation's office no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27th. You can read more about the Women's Fund and download the application materials from the Women's Fund website.
For information about applying for a grant, contact Christine Henkel at (920) 746-1786.
The Women's Fund is an endowment created to provide a permanent source of charitable dollars for programs serving women and girls in our community. To learn how you can incorporate the Women's Fund into your estate plans, or to create a Fund in your own family's name for the causes important to you, contact Bret Bicoy at (920) 746-1786.

From our lakeshore to the wetlands, our orchards to the meadows, the open spaces and our rural roads - there is something about the beauty of this place that keeps us here or calls us back each year. The Green Fund provides a specialized avenue for people to contribute who are concerned about the protection of Door County's environment and, therefore, its economy.
The Green Fund welcomes grant applications from environmental organizations and units of government that are working to sustain and preserve our environment. However, we also encourage non-environmental charities to bring forth ideas on how they might incorporate an environmentally conscious perspective into their work.
The Green Fund raises money through the generous annual contributions from scores of individuals and businesses. Each share a commitment to maintain Door County's environemental treasures so future generations of residents and visitors can enjoy the beauty that has been the foundation our community.
