Greetings!

DCCF Logo New

At some point or another, almost all of us in Door County had to make a conscious decision to call this place home.

There's the retiree who spent their career in a bigger city but left that all behind to enjoy their retirement years in Door County.  And there's the person of great wealth who has the means to live anywhere in the world, yet they choose to come back to Door County every season.

It's easy to recognize that choice when talking about someone who relocated to Door County.  But it's just as true for those who grew up here.

(Read the rest of the story in the Peninsula Pulse).

Another Door County season has begun!  Always remember how lucky we are to live in wonderful Door County!

Lee Traven to be Honored at 2011 Celebration of Giving

The Door County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Lee Traven has been named the 2011 Philanthropist of the Year.  Lee will be honored at this year's Celebration of Giving luncheon on Wednesday, July 13th.  The location and other details will be announced soonLee Traven - but mark your calendar and save the date!

Next to our love, the most precious thing we have to give is our time.  A philanthropist is one who gives generously of both these most valuable of treasures.  They see an issue (or opportunity) and cannot sit idly by while that condition exists in the world.  So they must act.

A philanthropist is born when a donor's passion compels them to give more of themselves than merely money.  They give of their time, offer their wisdom, and share their resources.

Put simply, a philanthropist is one whose actions are more inspiring than the substantial dollars they already give.

The Community Foundation is honored to recognize Lee Traven for his remarkable contributions to Door County.  Lee joins previous honorees Miriam Erickson, Josephine Guenzel, Tim & Sue Stone, Dave & Vonnie Callsen, Marion Hislop, Ruth & Hartley Barker, and Cynthia Stiehl.  You can read more about last year's honoree, Miriam Erickson.

We are NOT yet accepting RSVPs.  Invitations will be sent by U.S. mail (and email) in the coming weeks.  But mark your calendar now for the Celebration of Giving luncheon on Wednesday, July 13th.
