Greetings!

DCCF LogoLast month, I had the opportunity to attend the first annual Celebrate Women luncheon hosted by the Women's Fund of Door County. It was an enormously successful event attended by over 300 women (and 5 men) at the Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay.

In the days that followed, I was surprised that some of my male colleagues wondered out loud why I, as a man, would go to a Women's Fund event. On the surface, it's really a silly question. What man wouldn't enjoy being one of only five men in a room surrounded by more than 300 women. But when I took some time to talk with the other men who attended the luncheon, it's easy to understand why it's not only women who should care about the Women's Fund.

You can read the rest of the story in the latest issue of the Peninsula Pulse.

I hope you're having a wonderful fall in Door County!Bret Bicoy

Symbiotic Ways Private Foundations Use the Community Foundation

Working TogetherThe Door County Community Foundation is a strong advocate for the use of Donor Advised Funds as a cheaper and more tax-efficient alternative to establishing your own private foundation.  But even after considering the options, for some families, a private foundation continues to be a the right choice for them.

However, what is often lost in this discussion is that these two giving vehicles - community foundations and private foundations - are not mutually exclusive.  In fact, a public charity like the Door County Community Foundation can be an excellent resource and partner for families that already have established their own private foundation.

A recent article by Bryan Clontz of Charitable Solutions, LLC outlines ten effective ways that a communtiy foundation can assist private foundations in overcoming many of their limitations.  Read the entire article at the Planned Giving Design Center.

Email the Community Foundation, call (920) 746-1786, or contact your own legal or tax professional to learn how the Door County Community Foundation can be an excellent partner and resources to your private foundation.
