Greetings!

DCCF LogoWe at the Community Foundation tend to live a spartan life.  Our offices are deliberately modest because we want to maximize the the money we have to give away - which means we minimize the amount we spend on ourselves.

But if you've visited our office lately, you can't help but notice that the quality of the artwork on the walls has dramatically improved.  That's all thanks to the gift of several wonderful prints by the photographer and artist, Paul Lurie.

The prints were part of an exhibition entitled "Door County Farmscapes" and were previously on display at the Hardy Gallery.

Next time you're in downtown Sturgeon Bay, please feel free to drop by to see Paul's wonderful gift to our community.Bret Bicoy

New Historic Preservation Fund Launched

The Door County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it has launched a new Historic Preservation Fund in partnership with the Clifford and Clara Herlache Heritage Foundation.

"The history and unique culture of Door County is an enormous part of our identity as a community," said Bret Bicoy, President & CEO of the Community Foundation. "The Historic Preservation Fund Lighthouseoffers financial support for those people and organizations who are working to preserve and celebrate our past."

Working in partnership with the Clifford and Clara Herlache Heritage Foundation, the Community Foundation's Historic Preservation Fund supports the appreciation, enhancement and preservation of historical landmarks and the cultural heritage of Door County, Wisconsin.

The Community Foundation welcomes applications from historical societies as well as other kinds of charities that want to incorporate the preservation or celebration of Door County's history into their work.

"Door County is blessed to have such generous people who give back to sustain the community we love," says Bicoy.  "We hope their generosity will inspire others to incorporate a gift to charity in their own estate plans."

Historic Preservation Fund materials may be downloaded from the Community Foundation's website.  Applications and supporting materials must be received at the Community Foundation by Tuesday, November 16.

Consider incorporating the Historic Preservation Fund into your estate plans.  To learn how, email the Community Foundation or call (920) 746-1786.

Open a Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation

If you're thinking of establishing a private foundation - particularly before the tax year comes to an end - consider opening a Donor Advised Fund as better alternative.

Couple

Opening a Donor Advised Fund at the Door County Community Foundation allows you to make a gift today, thereby moving assets out of your income stream before the tax year ends, but you can decide on the recipient charities in the years to come. A Donor Advised Fund is an excellent planning tool and can help simplify your giving.

It's a simpler, cheaper, and more tax-efficient alternative to creating your own private foundation!

Here's how it works:

  • You make a gift to the Door County Community Foundation - you can give cash, appreciated stocks, real estate, or other assets.
  • We set up a special fund in your name, in the name of your family or business, or in honor of any person or organization you choose.
  • You receive a tax deduction in the year your gift is made.
  • You recommend uses for the fund - working with our professional staff to support the causes and organizations you care about most.
  • We handle all the administrative details and issue grants to charities in the name of the fund you establish (if you prefer, grants can be made anonymously).
  • If you choose, your gift can be placed into an endowment that is invested over time. Earnings from your fund are used to make grants addressing community needs. Your gift - and all future earnings from your gift - can become a permanent source of community capital, giving back in your family's name literally forever.
Email the Community Foundation, call (920) 746-1786, or contact your own tax professional to learn more about how a Donor Advised Fund can help you be generous in a very tax-efficient way.
