Giving Matters
Door County
Community Foundation

Greetings!

DCCF LogoLast month I had the opportunity to enjoy a performance of Mozart's masterpiece, The Marriage of Figaro.  As one who comes from a family of several opera singers, I must say that this performance was as good or better quality as you'd find in many an opera house across the country.

The amazing thing is that we were in tiny Fish Creek, Wisconsin with it's official population of about 200 residents.

Sometimes it's easy to forget what a remarkable quality of life we enjoy in Door County.  We benefit from charities like the Peninsula Music Festival who fill our summers with music at quality venues like the Door Community Auditorium.

Door County has many of the cultural amenities of a larger city, but remains a small community where people still know and care about one another.

We're lucky there's a place like Door County, Wisconsin.Bret Bicoy

Women's Fund Announces Grant Program at Sold Out Event!

A sold out crowd of over 300 women gathered for the first Celebrate Women! luncheon at the Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay on September 1st.  Author, humorist and keynote speaker Mary Pierce shared her hilarious and motivational message about the power of women working together.

COG2010 BJ and Jane"Anyone can be a philanthropist through the Women's Fund of Door County," says BJ Cassidy, Co-Chair of the Women's Fund.  "By pooling contributions both big and small, our impact on the community will be dramatically magnified."

It was announced at the event that the Women's Fund is now accepting grant applications from local charities and organizations.

"The Women's Fund will seek out the best ideas from charities in Door County," says Jane Stevenson, Co-Chair of the Women's Fund.  "It will invest in those projects which have the potential for the greatest impact.  When women and girls thrive, communities prosper."

The Women's Fund of Door County builds, enriches and nurtures the lives of women and girls through collective wisdom and philanthropy.  Through grants, the Women's Fund utilizes the ideas and expertise of Door County's charities to support the well-being of women and girls.

WF2010 GuestsPriority will be given to grants that provide education and information; build self-esteem and dignity; support solutions for critical issues and are research-based and data-driven with a focus on solutions.  For more information, or to download an application, visit the Women's Fund online.

Mark Jinkins Recognized for Exemplary Board Service

At the Celebration of Giving this summer, a special award was presented to Mark Jinkins for his exemplary service on the Community Foundation's Board of Directors.

Mark Jinkins at COG 2010
Mark Jinkins is as accomplished an attorney as you'll find in Door County.  He's been on the board and/or an officer of the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Association of Certified Public Accountants, the Door County Bar Association, and the list goes on and on.  He works with Pinkert Law Firm, LLP.

Mark's credentials have even earned him the privilege to practice before the United States Supreme Court - an honor earned by few attorneys in Wisconsin.  Mark could be a successful attorney anywhere, yet he continues to call Door County his home.

And for more than a decade, he served as one of the leaders of the Door County Community Foundation almost since it's incorporation some 11 years ago.

"Mark Jinkins has been one of the pillars of the Community Foundation since shortly after its inception," says Dick Egan, Chairman of the Board of Directors.  "Mark is everything an organization could hope for in a Board member. He's bright, dependable and a real contributor. He shares his legal and financial expertise readily and brings real insight into our community."

Egan also commented, "I would be remiss in not addressing his marvelous and mischievous sense of humor which brightened many a meeting."

Please join us in thanking Mark Jinkins for his decade of leadership and service on the Board of Directors of the Door County Community Foundation.
