Greetings!

DCCF LogoThe Door County Community Foundation's mission is to "inspire people to give back to sustain the community we love" - namely Door County, Wisconsin.
Most days we can simply enjoy our lives as full- and part-time residents of this wonderful community.  But then there are times when we cannot forget the brothers and sisters we have far beyond our little peninsula.

The horrifying events in Haiti this week have reminded us all of how lucky we are to live in Door County.

So once again we're asking you to give back - but not to the Community Foundation.  Instead, please give what you can today to support those organizations intensely working to provide relief in Haiti.

Unfortunately, the FBI had to issue a warning because some unscrupulous people are using this tragedy to steal contributions intended for legitimate relief efforts.  In an effort to ensure that your generosity reaches those truly in need, we are providing this list of reputable charities that have shown to be highly effective in the past at responding to natural disasters.

Perhaps by working together, all of us in Door County might serve as the inspiration for other communities to give back to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Reputable Charities Providing Relief in Haiti

The Door County Community Foundation asks that you consider making a gift directly to one of these reputable charities that are providing relief efforts in Haiti:

Founded in 1990, Relief International provides emergency, rehabilitation and development services that empower beneficiaries in the process. RI's programs include health, shelter construction, education, community development, agriculture, food, income-generation, and conflict resolution.  RI employs an innovative approach to program design and a high quality of implementation performance in demonstrating deep and lasting impact in reducing human suffering worldwide.  RI dedicates itself to seeking and addressing the long-term developmental needs of its beneficiaries even while in the emergency phase. The agency recognizes that disasters have the most negative impact on the lives of the poor; yet disasters, and especially the movement of the populations, can also bring about unexpected, positive social change. This context can therefore serve as a window of opportunity for eradicating poverty and social injustice.  Click to make a donation to Relief International.
International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.  Click here to make a donation to the International Medical Corps.
The American Refugee Committee is an international humanitarian aid agency that works to help people take back control of their lives.  The partnerships they form with their constituents and supporters provide essential services and economic opportunities to people who have lost everything due to conflict and disaster.  The organization has extensive experience in disaster relief, including recent responses to the Tsunami in Thailand and earthquakes and floods in Pakistan.  Each year, the American Refugee Committee works with nearly 2.5 million people in Africa and Asia.  Click here to make a donation to the American Refugee Committee.
The International Rescue Committee is a global network of first responders, humanitarian relief workers, healthcare providers, educators, community leaders, activists, and volunteers.  Working together, they provide access to safety, sanctuary, and sustainable change for millions of people whose lives have been shattered by violence and oppression.  The IRC is on the ground in 42 countries, providing emergency relief, relocating refugees, and rebuilding lives in the wake of disaster.  Click to make a donation to the International Rescue Committee.
