Greetings! |
Why do people choose to give to charity what they've spent a lifetime earning?
What inspires a person to share so dramatically of their resources with people they will never know?
These are just some of the questions we'll be exploring during two classes I'm teaching at The Clearing this winter. Originally I was requested to talk about how to incorporate charity into your estate plans. But upon the suggestion of Dick Egan, the classes turned into a larger exploration of motivations for giving to charity. Perhaps through an understand of what inspires others to give we might find our own inspiration for giving back.
We'll delve into the values which drive our charitable choices and the factors which influence our decision for us to give back. We'll then walk through the mechanics of some common (and not so common) charitable giving tools so you can realize your own charitable dreams for the community.
Just as our grandchildren are a gift to the future, so too can a charitable gift enrich the soul and touch the lives of others for generations to come.

| Scholarships for Door County Residents |
As many young adults begin their final semester of high school, thoughts of college and a bright future naturally come to find. The Door County Community Foundation is honored to be able to offer several scholarships to help these young minds realize their full potential.Applications for the following scholarships are available on the Community Foundation's website:
The Bill & Yvonne Boettcher Golf Scholarship was created to provide educational opportunities for promising young students from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The scholarship(s) will be awarded to a Sturgeon Bay High School senior with a demonstrated financial need for their first year of post-secondary education. The applicant must have maintained at least a "B" average throughout high school and been involved in community service. The applicant must also be in their second year of participation (or have participated previously for two years) in the golf program at Sturgeon Bay High School. The Johnny G Scholarship was founded in 2002 in memory of Johnny L. Gonzales by his family and friends. Johnny was a fixture of the northern Door County community and loved by many. He was a graduate of Gibraltar High School and worked in the Door County restaurant business most of his (all too short) life. The Johnny G Scholarship(s) will be awarded to a Gibraltar High School senior (or graduate age 21 or younger at the time of application) with a demonstrated financial need. The applicant's parents must be single, divorced from each other, separated, widowed or deceased.
The Robert J. Stoffel, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was created to help further the education of a promising young senior from Sevastopol High School in Door County, Wisconsin. The ideal applicant will clearly demonstrate the characteristics of an emerging leader, will be involved in both school activities and community service, and will have a demonstrated financial need. Each of the scholarships at the Community Foundation were created by the generosity of the people of our community. Please consider making a provision in your estate plans to provide educational opportunities for young people in Door County. Please contact the Community Foundation at (920) 746-1786 and we'll help you learn how. |
