| Greetings! |
Like many of you, I was saddened to learn that the Fairfield Center for Contemporary Art will be permanently closing its doors in March. Over the last decade, this Door County institution has been home to a vibrant collection of work by the renowned sculpter Henry Moore. It has also brought into our community showings of artists as varied as Robert Bateman, LeRoy Neiman, and Norman Rockwell.
While it appears that these difficult economic times have sealed the fate of the Fairfield, I encourage you to visit their facility on the corner of Michigan & 3rd in downtown Sturgeon Bay. Take a some time to enjoy one last time the wonderful collection that was given to our community by the late William S. Fairfield. You'll be glad you did.

| Health & Human Needs Fund Accepting Applications |
It's difficult to appreciate the incredible beauty and quality of life here in Door County if the very basic needs of your life are not being met.
The Community Foundation's Health and Human Need Fund helps those who live in the shadows of our society - the people in our community whose health or human service needs are not being adequately met.
We are pleased to invite charities to submit applications to our Health and Human Needs Fund. Materials are available to download, or contact the Community Foundation for more information.
Applications and supporting materials must be received in the Community Foundation's offices by Tuesday, March 10th at 4:00 p.m.
The Health and Human Needs Fund is one of the Community Foundation's five priority areas of Community Impact. Email the Community Foundation or call (920) 746-1786 if you'd like to learn more about how you can create a true philanthropic legacy by naming a Community Impact Fund as a beneficiary in your estate plans. |
| Scholarship Applications Now Available |
The Door County Community Foundation's 2009 Scholarship Applications are now available on the Community Foundation's website and at the guidance offices of local high schools.
Many of the Community Foundation's scholarships are administered in partnership with Door County schools and decisions as to the recipients are made there by school professionals. However, there are a handful of scholarships for seniors at Sturgeon Bay, Gibraltar and Sevastopol in which the selection process is independent of local schools.
Visit the Community Foundation's website to learn more.
All applications must be received in the Community Foundation's offices by Tuesday, March 10th at 4:00 p.m.
And if you're interested in establishing a scholarship today, or as a part of your estate plans, contact the Community Foundation at (920) 746-1786. |
| Board of Directors Spotlight: Marcia Peterson |
Marcia Peterson, Private Banker at Baylake Bank, brings her 30 years of expertise in the financial services industry to her role as a volunteer member of the Board of Directors of the Door County Community Foundation.
"Working with clients each day, two things are crystal clear to me; the importance of supporting this community I love and the importance leaving a legacy for giving," says Marcia. "We all have been given various gifts, some of them financial. They do us no good if we keep them only for ourselves. Their value is multiplied by sharing with others."
Like many of us who chose to move here from somewhere else, Marcia has a deep affection for what makes Door County special. "Not being born here, I think it is easier to see the unique beauty of this community. The people, the natural beauty, the appreciation for the arts - the unbelievable opportunities we have even though we are a relatively small community."
Marcia is a strong believer in the Door County Community Foundation because it truly works for the betterment of the entire community. "The Community Foundation is important because it is not self-serving," says Marcia. "Its purpose is to work collaboratively to support all the individuals and groups that make up this community."
We at the Community Foundation are honored to include and celebrate Marcia Peterson as a valued member of our Board of Directors. | |
