Greetings!

DCCF Logo"Nowhere in the Midwest are the arts more intertwined with the life of a community than Door County and nowhere in Door County is the passion to connect the arts to the community greater than the Francis Hardy Center for the Arts."

So reads the promotional materials of the Hardy Center - and after a recent visit with their new Executive Director Beth Meissner, it's easy to believe that they might be right.

This wondeful little gallery is housed in the old Anderson Warehouse on the Dock in Ephraim.  It recently displayed a thoughtful collection of quintessentially Door County images from local photographer Paul Lurie.  While the Hardy Center closes during the winter months, you must make sure to take a visit to this often overlooked cultural gem next season.

Congress Re-Enacts IRA Charitable Rollover
A great strength of Door County is our willingness as a community to step forward and share of our resources with the charities and foundations that are working hard to sustain our quality of life.  Thankfully, during these tough economic times, Congress recently restored a provision of tax law to reward those who contribute to charity from their retirement assets.

To encourage charitable giving during the current recession, the IRA Charitable Rollover was reenacted as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 on October 3, 2008. The IRA Charitable Rollover permits taxpayers at the age of 70½ and older to make tax-free IRAcharitable gifts totaling up to $100,000 per year from traditional Individual Retirement Accounts and Roth IRAs during 2008 and 2009.

Taxpayers at the age of 70½ and older are required to make annual distributions from their retirement accounts - whether they need the money or not. These distributions are normally included in your adjusted gross income, and thus you must pay taxes on them.

The IRA Charitable Rollover permits taxpayers age 70½ and older to make donations from their IRAs directly to charity without counting them as part of their adjusted gross income.  In other words, you can "rollover" a portion of your IRA to charity tax free!

Unfortunately, a contribution to your private foundation or donor advised fund does not qualify for the IRA Charitable Rollover.  However, the Door County Community Foundation now offers several types of charitable funds that do qualify for the IRA Charitable Rollover.  For instance, you can donate to any of our new Community Impact Funds as highly impactful way to give back to sustain the community we love.

Email the Community Foundation, call (920) 746-1786, or contact your own tax professional to learn more about how the IRA Charitable Rollover can help you be generous in a very tax-efficient way.

Children & Youth Fund Now Accepting Applications
If the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams, then we can give no greater gift to a child than to nurture their ability to believe in their own potential and promise.

The Community Foundation is pleased to announce that its new Children & Youth Fund is now accepting applications from those charities who are working to ensure a brighter future for Bicoy Girlsour community's children - whether it be alleviating their burdens today or helping them realize the opportunities of tomorrow.

You can download the application from the Community Foundation's website.  Completed applications and supporting materials must be received in the Community Foundation's offices by Tuesday, November 18th at 4 p.m.

The Children & Youth Fund is one of the Community Foundation's new Community Impact Funds.  Each Fund focuses on a different aspect of Door County that is essential to the future health of our community.

Email the Community Foundation or call (920) 746-1786 to learn more about the Children & Youth Fund - or how you can establish your own philanthropy legacy by creating in your estate plans a Community Impact Fund named in your family's honor.  Your generosity can forever support that aspect of life in Door County which is most important to you.
Isadoora Theatre Company: Excellence in Community Theatre
Isadoora Theatre Company was founded in 2002 with high hopes of becoming Door County's finest community theatre ensemble. Backed by the invaluable support of volunteers, a loyal audience, and the generous support of its sponsors, Isadoora has proven that they can be a legitimate and respected theater company within the Door County arts community.

"One of the greatest things we can do as a theatre company is to give voice to all spectrums of our community and bring to light the true human desires for justice, hope and the possibilities of life," says Holly Feldman, President of Isadoora Theatre Company's Board.  "It Isadoorais our Mission to celebrate theatre; to provide theatrical experiences of intellectual integrity; and perhaps most importantly, to provide an environment for open self-examination and artistic risk.  We believe the community is educationally and culturally enriched through our endeavors."

A testament to Isadoora's success is the recent establishment of its endowment. With a generous gift from the estate of Martha and Philip Cherry, Isadoora Theatre Company established an endowment with the Door County Community Foundation to ensure that its endeavors will continue long into the future.  As a community-supported theatre group operating solely in Door County's off-season, Isadoora Theater makes an important contribution to the arts and tourism in the community.

"As a completely volunteer run organization, we hope that our endowment will someday support our general operating expenses so that we can put more of our resources towards raising the bar on our productions," says Feldman.  "Our ultimate dream would be to be able to employ community members as paid staff with our organization and to have a 'home' of our own. But for now, taking the first step in establishing our endowment was a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary."

For more information on their current season, which opens with Side Man at Sturgeon Bay High School on November 13th, visit the Isadoora Theatre Company online.

Isadoora Theatre entrusts the administration of its endowment funds to the Door County Community Foundation.  The Community Foundation aggregates the endowed assets of many Door County charities and family foundations, collectively investing them as a larger, more diversified pool.  The Community Foundation also facilitates complex gifts and estate gifts to charities that serve our region.

To learn more about how you can incorporate the Isadoora endowment as a beneficiary in your estate plans, contact Isadoora Theatre at (920) 493-3667, or the Community Foundation at (920) 746-1786.
The Door County Community Foundation, Inc. is a collection of separate charitable funds set up by individuals, families, non-profit organizations, private foundations and businesses that are managed, invested and disbursed for the current and future good of Door County.
