| Greetings! |
At it's heart, the Community Foundation is about promoting philanthropy for the good of the entire community. Put simply, we connect people who care with causes that matter.
Whether it be helping a family celebrate a loved one's memory by establishing an endowment in their honor - or introducing philanthropists to the great work of our local charities - the Community Foundation exists to make giving easy, rewarding, tax-efficient and more cost-efficient.
We invite you to learn more about how the Community Foundation can help you give back to sustain the community we love.

| Children & Youth Fund Now Accepting Applications |
If the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams, then we can give no greater gift to a child than to nurture their ability to believe in their own potential and promise. The Community Foundation is pleased to announce that its new Children & Youth Fund is now accepting applications from those charities who are working to ensure a brighter future for our community's children - whether it be alleviating their burdens today or helping them realize the opportunities of tomorrow.
You can download the application from the Community Foundation's website. Completed applications and supporting materials must be received in the Community Foundation's offices by Tuesday, November 18th at 4 p.m.
The Children & Youth Fund is one of the Community Foundation's new Community Impact Funds. Each Fund focuses on a different aspect of Door County that is essential to the future health of our community.
Email the Community Foundation or call (920) 746-1786 to learn more about the Children & Youth Fund - or how you can establish your own philanthropy legacy by creating in your estate plans a Community Impact Fund named in your family's honor. | Johnny G Scholarship Celebrates Memory of Johnny Gonzales |
|
Johnny L. Gonzales, a graduate of Gibraltar High School, worked in the restaurant business in Door County for most of his (all too short) life. Johnny spent 20 years at the Sister Bay Bowl until starting his own restaurant, Johnny G's, in Sister Bay.
A beloved father of 4 children - Jordan, Dana, Lauren and Will - Johnny played County League baseball, softball, broomball, golf and loved to fish no matter the season. He fished for walleye at midnight in July and northern pike through the ice in January. Johnny passed away in March 2001 doing what he loved - ice fishing - at age 41.
The Johnny G Scholarship celebrates his memory by providing financial assistance to Gibraltar High School seniors (or graduates age 21 or younger) who want to continue their education after high school.
Applicants must have a demonstrated financial need and his or her parents must be single, divorced from each other, separated, widowed or deceased. This is a non-renewable scholarship for educational expenses at an accredited 2- or 4-year post-secondary school. Application materials are available online.
If you'd like to join the community in celebrating Johnny's memory by donating to the Johnny G Scholarship Fund - or if you'd like to create a scholarship of your own - email the Community Foundation or call (920) 746-1786. |

Birch Creek Music Performance Center |
|
The story of Birch Creek Music Performance Center, Inc. begins with co-founders Jim and Fran Dutton's mission to provide intensive, performance-based instruction to promising young musicians by immersing them in a professional, mentoring environment. The Duttons started their summer music academy in 1976 with 12 students and one concert on 40 acres of farmland in rural Egg Harbor. Thirty-three years later, Birch Creek has evolved into a vital organization that has remained firmly centered on its founders' mission, while earning a national reputation for excellence in music education for youth ages 13 through 19 years old. Nationally known performers and educators from around the country return to Birch Creek each year as faculty members to teach during the day and to perform in nightly concerts for the public. The varied backgrounds, nationalities, and cultural heritages of Birch Creek's faculty/performers and students are not only instructive from a musical viewpoint, but from a sociological one as well, informing Door County audiences about diverse regions and races in the context of music. The concerts in the Dutton Concert Barn each summer thrill concertgoers with the music genres of symphony, percussion & steel band, and big band jazz. Yet, behind the scenes, sound fiscal management has been essential in Birch Creek's steady success, including the establishment in 2000 of four Birch Creek Endowment Funds within the Door County Community Foundation. Birch Creek was a leader in the Door County arts community with this fiscal strategy, providing other arts organizations with an example of a varied approach to funds management. The funds are: Now and Forever Fund - to supplement donations for general operations made through appeals three times annually Scholarships Forever Fund - to augment annual gifts to the Scholarship Fund Lifetime Education Fund - to support essential educational components such as faculty salaries, musical instruments, library acquisitions, and guest artist fees Building for Tomorrow Fund - to supplement annual donations for capital expenditures The endowment funds, together with other fundraising strategies, establish a firm financial base that ensures the stability of Birch Creek and its services to young musicians and to the Door County community long into the future. Birch Creek entrusts the administration of its endowment funds to the Door County Community Foundation. The Community Foundation aggregates the endowed assets of many Door County charities and family foundations, collectively investing them as a larger, more diversified pool. The Community Foundation also facilitates complex gifts and estate gifts to charities that serve our region. To learn more about how you can incorporate the Birch Creek endowment funds as a beneficiary in your estate plans, contact Birch Creek at (920) 868-3763, or the Community Foundation at (920) 746-1786. | |
