Greetings!

Welcome to our October Manners Unit Newsletter.  Here's a chance to find out more about:
This unit focuses on Manners.  There are many aspects to manners of course, and each family and culture has its own take on some of these but, through our classes this month, we encourage the kids to think about some of those basics, such as saying "please" and "thank you".  We also encourage the kids to think more about being sensitive to others' feelings, with our song "Cookie Blues".  And our Manner Monsters remind us of how NOT to behave when we go to someone else's house for dinner!  You can find these songs, and many more, at our online store and you can download them as mp3 files to play on your ipod (for the kids, of course!) or other player.

Coming up in November will be our quarterly performances, when our classes will show you what we've been learning.  If your child is enrolled in our classes in a child care center, look for a note in your cubby or coming home with your child.  You are welcome to drop into any class to watch, but we'll put on a show for you in November!  No special clothing or shoes are required for these performances.  For classes that are just starting in October, our instructors may schedule performances a little later to allow for the kids to become more familiar with the material.

For those of you in the Twin Cities, I will be performing at Mall of America (in the Sears Court) on Tuesday November 16th at 10am and 11am.  I hope to see you there!

Finally, a request.  Dancercise Kids is a business and like all businesses, we rely on word of mouth and customer support.  If you like our classes, tell a friend!  Refer a friend, and we'll give your child a free Dancercise T-Shirt!  Just click this button to pass this e-mail on, and help us keep our business healthy and growing.

CurriculumOctober Curriculum - "Manners"
Happy HalloweenManners is the theme of our October Unit of our Communication Carnival Quarter. We're learning about greeting people even if we're shy ("Hello, Hello"), using our best manners to solve a puzzle, such as how to get into the Magic Castle, and also how to make our friends feel appreciated ("Cookie Blues").  We're also learning some good habits by seeing what the Manner Monsters do when they eat at someone's house, and being sure not to copy them!  Then, we're figuring out our left from our right in "Mrs Left and Mr Right"!

Muscle of the Month: Calf

Fitness - "Hello, Hello"
Lesson: Always remember to use your manners. Greet your friends with a handshake and a smile.
Steps: Walk on Heels and Toes, Point and Flex Toes

Jazz - "Magic Word"
Lesson: What is the magic word?  Please! What are some other manners we should always remember to use?
Steps: Boogie Wave, Cross Foot Spin
Sign Language: Magic, Please

Ballet - "Cookie Blues"
Lesson: It is easy to judge others and hurt their feelings.  Put yourself in their shoes.  Remember to be kind.
Steps: 1st Position, Glissade, Plié
Sign Language: Cookie, Sad, All Done

Tap - "Manner Monster"
Lesson: Always use your manners, especially when you are someone's guest because you don't want to be a Manner Monster!
Steps: Shuffle Hop Step, Toe Heel Walk
Sign Language: Thank You

Creative - "Mrs Left and Mr Right"
Lesson: We are learning our left from our right by singing Mrs. Left and Mr. Right and using black and white wrist bands to help remember.
Fun Fact: Our instructors reverse the wristbands for themselves because kids of this age learn by repeating as if watching a mirror!

Tumbling - Forward Roll

School busKids are back in school and things are returning to a normal schedule.  Please remember to let us know if you are choosing not to participate in Dancercise Kids.  We require written notice (e-mail or online form acceptable).  Please don't ask our instructors or childcare center staff to tell us.

If you have already let our office know, no need to do so again.
Family Activity: Make Cookies!
cookiesIn our song "Cookie Blues", Tommy makes cookies for all his friends, but one kid decides to put him down.  Here's a great chance to make some cookies for your family and get your child involved in the steps for baking (with due care of course).  You can find dozens of cookie recipes on the internet.  Here is a recipe for cookies with chocolate and peanut butter, and you can add the tender, loving care that Tommy adds in the song!

Thank you for participating in Dancercise.  You can find much more information on our website here, or you can e-mail us with questions.
