Healthy Food in Hospitals Project in the News
N&O On Sunday July 12 the News and Observer featured a story on the Healthy Food in Hospitals Project. The article also focuses on providing healthy options without sacrificing taste or quality. To read the article, click here.
All NC Hospitals 100% Tobacco-Free
tobacco-free signAs of July 6, 2009, all acute care hospitals in North Carolina voluntarily passed 100% tobacco-free campus policies. Tobacco cannot be used anywhere on the hospital's premises, including buildings, sidewalks, entrances, and parking lots. The tobacco-free policy will protect patients, visitors, and employees from exposure to second hand smoke. Read more here.
Workplace Health Assessment Free for NC Hospitals
WHA Please mark your calendars for the next statewide hospital conference call on July 30 from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. We will provide a tutorial on our new online Workplace Health Assessment, a simple online tool that evaluates healthy policies in the workplace and guides employers to help employees quit tobacco, eat healthier and get more physical activity while at work. Through our grant with The Duke Endowment, the Assessment is free to NC Hospitals. The assessment will help you put all of the pieces of worksite wellness together and identify clear action steps for continuous improvement in all three prevention focus areas. The call in and webinar information is below. You will need access to a computer with internet service to participate in the webinar.

Register for Upcoming Open House
Open House On August 18, NCPP will host our third Open House event where we will give hospitals across the state an opportunity to see what a red apple hospital looks like in action. The Open House will be hosted by Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, an official Center of Excellence on the project. They, along with other leading hospitals, will provide valuable information on how to get started and make the project work in your facility. The event will demonstrate the effectiveness of Wellness and Foodservices working together to promote the project and all worksite wellness initiatives. Space is limited and filling quickly so click here to register for the event.
