 NC Prevention Partners' New Look
As you may have noticed, we have updated our look. We are very proud of our new logo - the apple. To many, it is the classic representation of prevention, which is the very core of our mission: putting prevention first for a healthier North Carolina. Our updated logo represents NC Prevention Partners' passion, energy and dedication to making healthy choices easier in North Carolina. In the coming months, we will also have a completely revamped website that will make it even easier to find information about healthy policies wherever you work. While our look is new, our focus remains unchanged. NC Prevention Partners continues to be a leader in reducing preventable illness and early death in North Carolina caused by tobacco use, poor nutrition, physical inactivity and obesity.
Fax Referral Challenge Starts July 1st
Our next Fax Referral Challenge will begin July 1 and run through April 2010. We will have the same award categories and a new award for the hospital with the highest percentage of referrals that choose the "Multiple Call" option for tobacco users that need more encouragement to quit.  Visit our Web site today to learn more about the Challenge and download a copy of the fax referral form.

CMC-Mercy Celebrates Red Apple Recognition
CMC Apple Day
On June 17, 2009, Carolinas Medical Center- Mercy celebrated reaching NC Prevention Partners' Red Apple status.   The foodservices staff gave away fresh, red apples to the lunch crowd and information about healthy changes coming to the cafeteria. NCPP team members Nicholas Sullivan, Jenny Scott, and Hina Ahmed joined hospital staff for the celebration. The foodservices staff is looking forward providing new, fresh dishes and educating patrons on making healthy food choices.  Jim McMahan, Director of Food and Nutrition Services, credits the success of the project to the hardworking staff and their family-like environment.  "Our staff understands the importance of this project which makes it so much easier to implement.  When you have the staff on your side, you can't lose." Congratulations to CMC-Mercy for making the healthy choice the easy choice for employees and visitors!
Starting the Conversation: Spotlight on Healthy Eating
STCnutrition
The Starting the Conversation (STC) on Healthy Eating is a brief screening and referral tool for healthcare providers to assess patients' readiness to make healthier food choices. The tool includes questions that evaluate eating habits and access to the critical elements of a healthy diet. It also helps dismiss any false assumptions the patient may have related to healthy eating. NC Prevention Partners also offers STC tools on Tobacco Cessation,Physical Activity, Blood Pressure and Cholesterol. To view a sample and order the STC on Healthy Eating or any other tool in the series, go to Starting the Conversation. Please email Heather Mountz for more information, heather@ncpreventionpartners.org.
