Dear Wellness Teams,

We hope this newsletter finds you all healthy and engaged in school wellness planning. Spring is around the corner, a perfect time to plan outdoor activities.

This month's letter highlights Thomasville City Schools's staff wellness fair, a grant opportunity for school breakfast programs, and tips for shaping up your wellness teams. Let us know if there is anything we can help you with before the school year starts to wind down.

Sincerely,
NCPP Zone Health Team

Zone Health News- 5 new teams trained

Sustaining a Wellness Team
Asheville Action for Healthy Kids in collaboration with MEE Productions has developed a free toolkit to help get parents involved in school wellness. To access it, click here. Building a strong wellness team is a critical first step to making strong wellness policies. A good gardener knows that the secret to a bountiful garden is good soil, robust seeds, and plenty of water and sunshine. School wellness teams need the same thoughtful approach to ensure that things get done and the team is sustainable. When building your wellness team, consider the potential of parents as change agents and engage them as partners in support of healthier schools.
Grant Opportunity- School Breakfast Grant
AshevilleWith generous support from the Kellogg's Corporate Citizenship Fund, Action for Healthy Kids is offering schools a grant opportunity to enhance their School Breakfast Program. Awards will range between $500 and $2000. Proposals are due by April 10, 2009. Projects must be completed in the 2009-2010 school year.
