Seeking Input From Membership
Your Board is seeking input from the membership on the position the Guild should be taking with regard to the HST proposal as it applies specifically to the B&B industry but also as it applies to the Tourism Industry in general.
Ways the HST will affect your B&B
1. If you currently do not remit GST, there will be no change to your operation.
2. If you currently remit GST less your allowable deductions, you will now have to remit HST. So instead of collecting 5% GST you will collect 12% HST. Remember that you can now claim all allowable HST expenses which you could not previously do with PST.
3. If you currently remit GST, the hotel tax and the additional Hotel Tax AHRT, you will now collect 12% instead of the 13-15% you previously had to charge.

Examples of groups opposed to the HST
- BC Restaurant and food Services Association (BCRFA)
- Council of Tourism Associations (COTA)
- Some Destination marketing Groups (DMO'S)
- Eat and Drink BC
- Real Estate Boards amongst others
So, let's go back to the opening paragraph and question. Please let us know which advocacy position YOU think your Guild should be taking on this very important issue.
Throw our support behind COTA and BCRFA? Take a very active role in opposing the proposals? Take no action at all? Or ??? Tell Us.... Your opinion matters!

British Columbia Bed & Breakfast Innkeepers Guild
