Australian Professional Awards Program

PMI Australian Chapters

Only 1 month left to nominate for Project Manager of the Year and the Distinguished Contribution Award!

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain recognition by your peers.  Nomination alone marks you out as above the average and will help in future advancement through visibility of you and the quality of your work.  Encouraging and helping a colleague to nominate is a tangible way of publicly acknowledging the quality of their work.  Your company will also benefit through recognition within the Project Management community of the quality of project work being undertaken by your organization.

PMI Project Manager of the Year Awards
The Project Manager of the Year award is open to any Project Manager working in Australia who has completed (or practically completed) a project (or major section of the Project) in the 12 months preceding the award cut off date.  A Project Manager of the year will be chosen for each state chapter and the state chapter winners will compete for the Australian Project of the Year.

PMI Distinguished Contribution Awards Year Award
The Distinguished Contribution Award recognizes an individual who has expanded or advanced the project management profession in Australia or made significant contributions to the aims and objectives of PMI in the year preceding the award.

The awards are open to Australian PMI Chapter members and any non-member who becomes a member of both PMI and an Australian chapter prior to the closing of nominations on June 30th 2010.

The 2010 Awards presentation will be made at the PMOz Project Management Conference in Brisbane August 2010.

Closing date for nominations is 30th June 2010.

The latest information including nomination procedures can be found on the PMI Australia web site.

Don't wait!  Get your nomination in, or nominate someone you know.

Major Water Capital Projects

The large-scale projects required in the water services sector over the next five to ten years will cost billions

They will involve complex technical, environmental and financial issues, complex decision-making and approval processes, large numbers of vendors, and have high stakes in terms of performance, liability and safety. Due to their widespread impacts, these projects will come under intense scrutiny from community, regional and industry stakeholders, and the reputations and careers of the leaders and decision-makers involved will be at risk.
Water

These projects, like major capital infrastructure projects in other sectors of the economy, will involve risk and challenges at every stage in the project lifecycle: from strategy and planning to conceptual design, approval, contract award, detailed design, financing, construction and operation.

Broad historical data puts the average cost overrun of original budget in projects in excess of $1 billion at 34%. With substantial investment in water projects already underway across the nation, early indications
are that considerable cost overruns are already being experienced - even though many projects are not yet at construction phase.
