Call for Team Liaison volunteers for the Homeless World Cup The Homeless World Cup (HWC) is being held in Melbourne between 30 Nov and 8 Dec this year. This international event is growing every year, with over 50 teams of homeless and marginalised people from all over the world competing for the 2008 cup in Melbourne. The Board has decided to support this event by calling for members to apply for the voluntary role of Team Liaison Officer (TLO).
The organisers want to match every one of the HWC teams arriving in Melbourne with two TLOs to accompany them to all the events on their HWC schedule. The primary TLO relationship will be with the team manager and coach, who have direct operational responsibility for the team and can speak English. Each TLO will work in shifts to: - meet and greet the team at the airport - accompany the team to their accommodation and settle them in - accompany them to the sports venue and be available during the sporting events - accompany them to cultural and social events - accompany them to the airport at the end of their stay TLOs will need to be available for daily shifts (max 8 hours) from 30 Nov to 8 Dec. Volunteers need to be reliable, have good interpersonal and communication skills, handle high pressure situations, and be willing to have fun!

Postponement of the PAPA Awards 2008

It is with regret that I wish to advise you that the Australian PMI Council (APC) has elected to postpone the PMI Australia Professional Awards (PAPA) in 2008, with the next National professional awards programme being planned for the end of 2009 with the ceremony being held in Canberra. Anyone who has began a nomination for this year in preparation of the promotion of this event will be able to submit their nomination to next year's award programme. With the focus on investigating the transition to a single National Chapter and other key and ssociated projects, we have elected to maintain our ommitment to high quality events and believe that the postponement was necessary on this occasion. I wish to thank those dedicated volunteers that had been working on the PAPA awards to date and we look forward to a spectacular event in 2009. Regarding the work being undertaken toward a National Charter, the feasibility stage is progressing well and we have received full support from PMI's Global Operations Centre. It is an exciting time for PMI in Australia. Thank you for your understanding. Regards, Todd Hutchison National Chairman, APC

PMI NATIONAL OFFICE TO BE ESTABLISHED IN 2009
It is with great pleasure that I confirm that Iain Fraser, a member of the PMI Board, has officially announced at the recent PMOZ Conference that PMI will be establishing a National Office in Australia in 2009, to be located in Sydney. The purpose of this Office is to support the pending National Chapter and the growth of PMI membership and certification in Australia. The office will be focusing on outreaching to Government and Corporate Australia, marketing the benefits that PMI brings to its members and the community, and generally supporting the profession. With the focus on building a substantial support base in Australia, your local Chapter Board and the Australian PMI Council (APC) members have been working diligently toward a brighter future and a greater commitment to serving our membership. I look forward to keeping you up-to-date with the planning of both the National Office and the National Chapter initiatives. Regards, Todd Hutchison National Chairman, APC

Help Wanted! - National PMI Project
Last month Todd Hutchison - Chairman of the Australian PMI Council (APC) was sent to members announced the development of a strategy to possibly move towards a single Australian PMI organisation based on single Chapter with Branches model (similar to New Zealand, Poland etc). The APC see many benefits in this approach including:
- A National presence that will be recognised by the Australian Federal Government and major corporations;
- Members can move interstate and retain the same membership;
- The greater power and reach of a national body will increase the awareness of PMI chapters, their members and its certification leading to an advantage for PMI certified individuals when they are seeking employment.
A project manager has now been appointed by the APC to further develop this strategy and we are seeking a registration of interest from our members to volunteer and join the team on this National PMI project. We currently need volunteers from our membership who have good finance, legal, marketing or change management skills. If you are interested in joining the team please get in touch with your local chapter president at http://www.pmichapters-australia.org.au/officers.htm
