News Briefs
Chapter Leadership Opportunity - Expression of Interest: The PMI Melbourne Chapter has been promoting professional project management since 1997, with more than 1300 members the Chapter is one of the largest and most proactive in Asia Pacific region. The Chapter is calling for nominations from interested Chapter members to fill a vacant Board position. Nominees must be financial members of both PMI and the Melbourne Chapter.
Melbourne Chapter Growth: The Chapter is pleased to congratulate those members that have recently become PMP acredited, and also welcome the new Chapter members that have joined in 2008.
New members should also have received by now a separate Chapter Newsletter to welcome them and invite them to attend the Chapter's monthly events and other activities. As it can take some time for new member details to filter through from PMI Headquaters, we invite any new members to contact usdirectly if they are yet to receive the welcome emails.

PMI Leadership: 160 attendees from 33 countries attended the recent PMI Leadership Meeting held in Malta (16-18 May). "We've built a global profession that allows us to share a common language across the world," said PMI Board of Directors Chair Philip R. Diab, MBA, PMP, as he welcomed participants at the opening session. Leadership Institute Meetings are truly special gatherings that attract new leaders and veterans alike, he went on. "You begin to build a network of professional colleagues that will be friends and colleagues for years to come."

Fifteen accomplished leaders became graduates of the Leadership Institute Masters Class on the evening of 16 May. The class is a journey of learning and discovery. It's designed to provide intensive ongoing training, development and support for a limited class of participants so that each participant receives focused attention and support throughout the program. One of the 2008 graduates was Mark Ives (Australia) - who is also a member of the PMI Code of Ethics Implementation Advisory Committee.
Good Scheduling Practice: Developing and maintaining a 'good schedule' is a key element in the efficient management of any project. PMI's Practice Standard for Scheduling expands on the PMBOK Guide® to define good scheduling practice and provides an effective way to measure if a schedule demonstrates 'good practice'. Copies of this standard can be downloaded as PDFs from the PMI website by members for personal use free of charge. Printed copies of the standard can be purchased from the PMI Melbourne Chapter for $77 (price includes GST and postage): email PMBOK_Orders for details. A complete list of the PMI standards stocked by the Melbourne Chapter is on our 'Home Page' (scroll down to view).
Monthly Event; GoGirl-Go for IT [1 PDU]: The last years of secondary school are important for thinking about what careers students can consider. However the declining number of females studying business/IT or IT at a tertiary level indicates that too many girls just aren't aware of the opportunities a career in IT can bring - or the important skills they have to bring to this industry and their potential to expand their careers into project management.
PMI Melbourne is proud to host a presentation and panel discussion from members of the Victorian ICT for Women network who will describe the objectives of GoGirl-Go for IT, its focus and the intended target community audience. A facilitator will also moderate discussion and a question and answer session with the audience. |
