Student Spotlight: Alfonso Trevino

As Alfonso Trevino begins to describe his start at JJC, the hint of a smile crosses his face before he jokingly refers to himself as a nontraditional student.

As lawmakers debated important federal budget issues on Capitol Hill, JJC president Gena Proulx and Trustee Jeff May met with the college's congressional delegation to advocate for higher education as part of the Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.

Proulx, May, and Jeff Julian, JJC director of communications, discussed funding for the Pell Grant program and workforce investment training, along with other educational issues, during the annual summit attended by the nation's community colleges.

The JJC delegation met with staff members from the offices of Sen. Mark Kirk, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, and Rep. Judy Biggert, while also attending formal addresses by Sens. Durbin and Kirk.
