 Year
Campus Blizzard Stats with Rich Rivera

As snow began to blanket the college's parking lots last Tuesday afternoon, Facility Services crews were already on the scene.

Assistant Director of Facility Services and Roads and Grounds Rich Rivera talked this week about the college's clean-up efforts in the wake of the blizzard that shuttered the college--and much of the district--for two days.

Q: Which campus accumulated the most snow?

A:  Main Campus, City Center Campus and the Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center reported 20 inches of snowfall each and Romeoville Campus reported 19 inches. City Center Campus had the worst drifting ... the Renaissance Center had four- and five-foot snowdrifts covering the entire length of the front entrance. Weitendorf had the second-worst snowdrifts.

Update from Dr. Proulx on the FY12 Budget

 Gena Proulx

To the College Community:

On Tuesday night, the Board of Trustees voted down a $4 tuition increase and an option to pursue variable tuition for high cost, high demand programs.

These tuition measures were recommended to help balance the FY12 budget and meet the needs of:
  • our growing student population,
  • our contractual commitments to unions,
  • our facilities expansion, and
  • to account for the state's unpredictable funding.
While I am pleased that students will see tuition relief for next year, especially in tough economic times, Joliet Junior College still faces financial challenges as it plans for FY12.

We continue to be affected by our growing enrollment, which has increased 35 percent over the last ten years, and the state's financial crisis. To date for FY11, the state has made two payments and still owes the college in excess of $6 million.

Kirkland Removed from Ballot; Four Candidates in April Trustee Race

The Will County Circuit Court on Wednesday ruled that Board of Trustees candidate Thelma Kirkland be removed from the election ballot, reversing the decision by the JJC electoral panel to keep Kirkland in the April 5 consolidated trustee election.

The JJC panel, comprised of current board members Robert Wunderlich, Dan O'Connell and Andy Mihelich, voted to keep Kirkland on the ballot at a Jan. 11 public hearing, held when another trustee candidate, Jeffrey Vickery, filed an objection stating inaccuracies in Kirkland's filing.
