White Store Demo Delayed

Demolition of the White Store was delayed until sometime after Jan. 18 due to the discovery of more asbestos in the attic of the structure. The web cam is now up and can be viewed on the master plan website at www.jjc.edu/info/masterplan.

Increased Construction Traffic South Side Main Campus

Construction traffic on the south side of the Main Campus--primarily in South Lot 2--has increased as work begins on the Natural Areas expansion project.

January Board Meeting Update

The Board of Trustees read proclamations at the Jan. 18 meeting designating February as African-American History Month and recognizing February as Career and Technical Education Month.

The college was recently recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) by receiving their Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the FY09 budget. At the meeting, Board chair Bob Wunderlich presented Jeff Heap, JJC controller, with a plaque from the GFOA.

In order to receive the award, the college budget had to satisfy nationally-recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, including how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.

JJC workforce development coordinator Sue Errek was featured in a video produced by the American Association of Community Colleges about JJC's Plus 50 Initiative program and its efforts to help unemployed workers get re-trained for new careers and back on the job. Errek helps students in the program identify what they would like to study and what their ultimate educational goals are. Watch the video

Stephanie Braun, Academic Skills Center Manager, lead the initiative to earn the International Tutor Program Certification (ITPC) for levels one and two for the Academic Skills Center under the College Reading and Learning Association. This certification is beneficial to students in two ways: it allows the Academic Skills Center to provide higher quality tutoring by ensuring all tutors are well trained, and it allows tutors to participate in professional development and earn credentials that will follow them to their transfer institutions. JJC is one of 16 community colleges in Illinois that hold this certification.

The Advancement Division would like to thank everyone who participated in the Strategic Planning SWOT activity during PPD Week.

The following are winners of the raffle:

$10 Chef Table Gift Certificate
