Objection Overruled in Trustee Election -- 5 Remain on Ballot

Members of the JJC Board of Trustees voted Jan. 11 to overrule an objection filed by trustee candidate Jeffrey Vickery to remove another candidate, Thelma Kirkland, from the April 5 consolidated trustee election ballot.

Vickery had filed two objections Jan. 5 against Kirkland and Kathryn M. Freeman of New Lenox, stating inaccuracies in their filings. Freeman withdrew her petition Jan. 7. After review of the objection by college attorney Jim Harvey last week, the public hearing was held in the board room to determine a ruling.

Specifically, Vickery contended that Kirkland, of Joliet, should be removed from the ballot because she did not file a statement of economic interest along with her petition papers during the required filing period between Dec. 13 and Dec. 20.

Take the Strategic Plan Survey

The college is currently in the process of updating its strategic goals. When developing a strategic plan, organizations generally undertake an activity to identify important aspects related to both their internal and external environments.

The college needs assistance in this important piece of the planning process, and is asking that you take the following survey, which is based on developing a better understanding of JJC's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT).

The deadline to complete the survey is Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. A raffle will be drawn on Jan. 18 including all that participated in the online survey and the SWOT PPD session that was held on Jan. 5.
