JJC Partners with National Org for Exercise is Medicine CampaignKickboxing Video pic

 

JJC's Natural Sciences and Physical Education Department kicked off a yearlong initiative this fall in an effort to show the importance of physical activity to overall health and in the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses.

 

The initiative, called Exercise is Medicine, is a national program led by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) that JJC physical education instructor David Opon learned of last spring at an ACSM Health and Fitness Summit and Exposition.

D-Building Entrance Closed Nov. 18 - 20

 

The D-Building entrance will close briefly starting Thursday, Nov. 18, through Saturday, Nov. 20, as crews erect precast panels and structural steel as part of the Automotive Technology expansion project. The entrance will reopen on Sunday, Nov. 21. 


Attorney David Ruttle Honored with Board Resolution -- and a Bobblehead Doll 

David Ruttle

The Board of Trustees honored college attorney David Ruttle with a resolution at the Nov. 9 meeting in light of his upcoming retirement at the end of this year.

 

The Senior Leadership Team also gave Ruttle a parting gift--his own Bobblehead figure.

 

Ruttle has been the college's attorney since 1997.

Mulvey - Weitendorf CRD AwardBrenda Large, Corporate and Community Services personal enrichment coordinator, was recently elected to the Shorewood Chamber of Commerce board of directors. Large was one of five candidates contending for three open positions. 

 

Kristin Mulvey, director of institutional advancement, was given the national Campus Impact Award for Private Fundraising Professional by the Council for Resource Development on Nov. 5 in Washington, D.C. Since July 1, 2009, Mulvey has raised $672,232 for Joliet Junior College.

 

John H. Weitendorf Jr., JJC Foundation president, was awarded the Council for Resource Development's Community College Benefactors Award - the only national recognition of philanthropists to two-year higher education institutions - on Nov. 5 in Washington, D.C.
