Handcrafted Jewelry Holiday Sale Nov. 10
JJC will hold its annual Handcrafted Jewelry Holiday sale on Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the cafeteria on the Main Campus.
JJC metalsmithing students and instructors will be selling handcrafted necklaces, bracelets, earrings and an array of other items ranging in price from $3 to $50. Watch students craft their pieces in the video above.

Windows 7 and Office 2010 Installation, Training Sessions
Windows 7 and Office 2010 are currently being installed on computers throughout the college. For those interested in learning new features of these systems, IT has scheduled hands-on training sessions on Fridays throughout the remainder of the calendar year.
All classes will be in the T-2028 lab on the Main Campus.
Classes are scheduled as follows:
11/5 2 p.m. 11/12 9 a.m. 11/19 2 p.m. 12/3 9 a.m. 12/10 2 p.m. 12/17 9 a.m.
The next areas to receive installation of Windows 7 and Office 2010 are the English, Math, Business, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Natural Sciences Departments, which will be rolled out in early
November. Other offices and departments will be rolled out in 2011.

Thanksgiving Buffet Nov. 18, Bookstore Holiday Happenings, Order Holiday Pastries
JJC Food Service and Culinary Arts will sponsor their annual Thanksgiving Buffet on Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Main Campus cafeteria.
Cost to attend is $9.50 per person. The buffet menu includes squash soup, tossed salad, oven-roasted turkey, dressing, giblet gravy, candied sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, buttered corn, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and assorted desserts.
Bookstore Holiday Happenings Nov. 18
In conjunction with the Thanksgiving Buffet Nov. 18, the Bookstore will host their 6th Annual Holiday Happenings event, which features savings on many JJC Bookstore holiday gift items, JJC clothing, book bags, food Items, Vera Bradley, and more. A food and dip sampling from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. will also be held. There is also free shuttle service from the T-Building East Parking Lot #1 to the sale.
Order Holiday Pastries
In addition, the Food Service and Culinary Arts Holiday Pastry Shop will again offer pastries to order for the holiday season and prepared to take home the week of holiday break. Items include fruitcake, stollen, apple strudel, cherry strudel, and Christmas cookies.
Orders must be submitted and paid in full by Nov. 19. Forms and payments can be turned into the Main Campus cafeteria cashiers. Orders must be picked up on Dec. 20, Dec. 21, or Dec. 22.

Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 10, Honoring Veterans Past and Present
The college will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 10 at noon on the Main Campus Bridge.
Posting of colors will be performed by the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. All JJC student and staff veterans are invited to dress in military uniforms or something designating their branch of service.
The ceremony schedule is as follows:

Veterans Benefit Seminar at JJC Nov. 17; Open to the Community
The Joliet Junior College Veterans Alliance will host its first annual Veterans Benefit Seminar on Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Rd. in Joliet.
The event, which will be held in the Fine Arts Theatre, is open to all veterans, their families, and the surrounding communities. It will work to provide information on veteran benefits and local resources available. Speakers at the seminar include:

May Attends AACC Summit on Completion
Trustees Attend Leadership Congress

Trustee Jeff May participated in the Association of Community College Trustees Summit on Completion which was held Oct. 19 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel in Ontario, Canada.
The summit was designed to solicit ideas and input from key stakeholders on increasing student completion in order to meet the recent federal focus on graduation rates. Higher education experts at the conference included Dr. Linda Baer, senior program officer for postsecondary success, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Dr. Kay McClenney, director, Center for Community College Student Engagement. Trustee May is a member of the ACCT 2010-2011 Board of Directors representing the Central Region.
In addition, Trustee Mike O'Connell, Board Chair Robert Wunderlich, and Dr. Proulx attended the 2010 ACCT Leadership Congress, which was part of the Summit on Completion, and participated in the four-day Congress titled "Community Colleges are Indispensable to Reinvigorating the Economy."
"As president, I'm very proud of the interest and involvement of our trustees in pursuit of their professional development," Dr. Proulx said. "At a time when resources are limited, it is ever so important for our community college trustees to understand the implications on accreditation and policies and practices affecting a student's ability to complete an associate degree."

Part-Time Employee Health Insurance Open Enrollment, Info Sessions
Adjunct faculty, part-time support and technical staff and non-union part-time staff are invited to attend an informational session about HM Care Advantage on Monday, Nov. 1. Open enrollment for the plan starts Nov. 1 and runs through Nov. 30.
Eligible part-time employees of JJC and their families can enroll in this limited benefit medical plan that reimburses the employee or the provider with a fixed dollar amount for covered medical services. Those who enroll by Nov. 30 will have coverage that is effective Jan. 1, 2011.
Premiums can also be deducted from your checking account on a monthly basis, with a $4 processing fee per month.
HM Care Advantage (Limited Benefit Medical) is designed to help meet basic health insurance needs. The benefits of HM Care Advantage include physician office visits, inpatient hospitalization, additional first day admission benefit, surgery/anesthesia, outpatient diagnostic testing, vision and pharmacy discount cards, 24/7 phone service for health info and advice and online health information.
For more information, call (800)481.9979 to speak to a customer service representative. The HM Care Advantage call center is available to help with questions about the coverage and provide general assistance from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday.

- Associate Professor of English Kristin LaTour has had her chapbook of dramatic monologue poems adapted for a play, which will be held on Monday, Nov. 29, at 7:30p.m. at Café Ballou, 939 N. Western Ave, Chicago.
The chapbook, titled "Town Limits: Red Beaver Lake, Minnesota," will be performed by LaTour, Fine Arts Assistant Professor Al Golden, and JJC student Billy Paul. Donations will be accepted and will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Seating is limited.
- JJC speech and theatre students in Assistant Professor Tammy Perkins' summer class participated in Morning Star Mission's annual Jump on the Bus program designed to provide an outfit and school supplies to children.
