Updated Interactive Map, New Way to Download to Smartphones
The college's web team developed and designed an interactive Main Campus map in January. It maintains up-to-date information and changes due to construction. To access the map, click on the About tab at the top of the college's home page and then click on the Campuses link. It is also available at www.jjc.edu/info/map. The map allows users to quickly and efficiently find building locations and view updated construction areas.
In addition, Media Services has added a QR code to the campus digital signage displays that allows anyone with a smart phone to download a PDF copy of the main campus map directly to their device.
A barcode reader application and PDF reader must be installed on the phone to scan the code and view the map. These apps are available for free from your phone service provider.
For questions on this new feature, contact Media Services at ext. 6649.
QR Code is a registered trademark of DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED.

JJC Registration in the 1960s
(Photo courtesy of Joliet Junior College: A Pictorial History of America's Oldest Public Community College by Robert Sterling)
The photo above, taken from Robert Sterling's "Joliet Junior College: A Pictorial History of America's Oldest Public Community College," shows Assistant Deans Walter Zaida and Susan Wood with Dean Elmer Rowley, who is sitting at the table, preparing for the first day of registration in the early 1960s.
According to Zaida, "Station 1" is where he, Rowley and Wood are just about to greet students at the start of the semester registration line.
"The first alphabetical group would have been waiting outside the junior college library door," Zaida said this summer. "Clerical staff was ready to work subsequent stations while academic advisers/instructors strategically placed themselves throughout the library study tables."
The biggest difference between registration then and now?
"There was no phone or computer registration yet available," Zaida said.

College Prepares to Update Strategic Plan This year, Joliet Junior College will begin the process of updating its strategic plan. The goal of the strategic planning process is to provide the college with tools and plans to anticipate and respond to change in its external environment. Using the theme of Building Futures, the strategic planning process will include environmental scanning; a strengths-weaknesses-opportunities-threats analysis; and a workshop for internal and external stakeholders of the college. There will be a kickoff workshop for environmental scanning teams on October 1. If you are interested in serving on one of these teams, please contact your vice president for further information. The college has created a publication highlighting two years of accomplishments related to the 2008-2011 Strategic Plan. You can view this document online at www.jjc.edu/about/college-info/Documents/strategic-plan-progress-report.pdf.

City Center Campus Plans Move Forward after Joliet City Council Meeting
Photo gallery of architect renderings Building plans are moving forward for the Joliet Junior College City Center Campus after the Joliet City Council on Aug. 16 approved the sale of the adjacent White Store building at 235 Chicago Street to the college. At the meeting, Dominick Domenica of DKA Architecture presented three different renderings for a new 150,000-square-foot building that would stand on the White Store property at the corner of Chicago and Webster Streets. The proposed 10-story structure would house the college's nationally renowned culinary arts and hospitality programs as well as workforce development. GED/ESL training, and adult education programs. The college estimates that this plan would bring over 500 additional JJC students to the downtown Joliet area. JJC President Dr. Gena Proulx told the city council that the college's planned enhancements to the City Center Campus include the relocation of adult education, GED Services and the Will County Work Net Center to the new building.
