Staff Portal Demo Sessions July 26, 27
With the launch of the myJJC portal initiative set for this summer, the college's Information Technology division will host several demo sessions to introduce users to the portal and its features.
The myJJC portal will be available to all staff members beginning Monday, July 26, as part of a soft launch, with faculty and students given access to the portal later in the calendar year.
Reservations for demo sessions can be made by e-mailing erichard@jjc.edu with your preferred session time and date. Reservations are not necessary, but seating will be limited.
The portal will ultimately serve as the college's intranet, placing the college's online resources in one convenient location. While the current launch of the portal will not affect any current work processes, the myJJC portal will eventually become the only place to access information currently found in eResources and Colleague. For college administrators, preparing for a tragedy like the Northern Illinois University shootings is an unfortunate reality. That's why the presidents of the 12 colleges and universities in the South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium, a partnership of colleges and universities in the Chicago southland, have agreed to provide assistance to one another during a campus crisis. On July 19, the consortium presidents signed a mutual aid agreement designed to help a member institution maintain operations and business continuity in the aftermath of a crisis. The agreement is believed to be the first of its kind nationally.
"This agreement acknowledges that one institution may not have all of the resources needed to respond to an emergency and provides a framework for our institutions to cooperate with and assist each other in a time of crisis," Dr. Eric Radtke, president of Prairie State College and chairman of the consortium's Presidents Committee, said. As part of the pact, an institution could request facilities, equipment or personnel in a variety of disciplines, including police, human resources, and crisis communications.

The five-member JJC hot foods culinary team will soon travel to Anaheim, Calif. for the American Culinary Federation's national competition the first week of August. There, they'll compete for the gold medal against teams from California, New York and Savannah, Ga.
To prepare, the team has spent hours in the kitchen perfecting their four-course meal, which consists of seafood appetizers, a lamb entrée, salad and white chocolate mousse terrine. And it all has to be cooked and plated for 24 people in under 3 hours, 20 minutes.
The JJC hot foods team, coached by Chefs Tim Bucci and Kyle Richardson, consists of Matt Cappellini, Lindsey Ciszewski, Lauren Mulvey, James Bingham, Molly Meehan, and Suzette Simpson.
