The Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Mortenson Development, Inc., to assist the college with its City Center Campus project at the June 15 meeting.

Mortenson, based in Elk Grove Village, was one of eight firms to respond to the request for qualifications process for the project, which includes relocating the college's nationally renowned culinary arts and hospitality program to downtown Joliet.

The location will also continue to provide workforce development, GED/ESL training, and adult education programs.

Along with architect and construction management duties, the development team may also advise the college in pursuing additional financing for the project.

With $15 million from the 2008 bond referendum dedicated to City Center Campus, JJC is also pursuing partnerships and creative funding solutions to potentially raise another $15 million.

At its May meeting, the JJC board approved an intergovernmental agreement, which allows the college to purchase the property adjacent to the current City Center Campus at 235 N. Chicago Street in Joliet, known as "The White Store."
