Board Votes to Establish 15 New Positions
May 11 Board Summary
Fifteen new positions were approved at the May 11 Board of Trustees meeting as part of a tentative budget for fiscal year 2011. The final budget will be adopted at the June 15 meeting. The position requests were presented to the board by the administration in a priority list, with positions the college most needs at the top. The positions established are all in areas that directly serve students. New positions include: · Full-time library director · Full-time veterans coordinator · Full-time grant writer · Full-time fire science/EMS instructor · Full-time English instructor · Full-time math instructor · Full-time psychology instructor · Full-time philosophy instructor · Part-time counselor · Part-time academic credentials analyst · Part-time campus safety officer (2) · Full-time multicultural student affairs assistant · Part-time financial aid scanner · Part-time financial aid clerical assistant
Zak Cottrell | In addition to the establishment of new positions, the board also welcomed the new 2010-11 student trustee Zakary Cottrell and approved the appointment of Tammy J. Rust to the vice president of administrative services post vacated by David Agazzi.
Cottrell told the group he was honored to have the chance to represent the student body.
He is a graduate of Gaffney High School and a pre-medicine major. In his campaign, Cottrell said he believes students need a voice and that belief prompted him to run. Cottrell, of Joliet, succeeds Darren Newenhouse, who graduates May 14 and will transfer to Governors State University.
Tammy J. Rust | Rust is currently interim vice president and treasurer at Harper College in Palatine. Previous to this position, she was assistant vice president and controller for Harper College and was responsible for payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, student accounting, food service, bookstore, budgeting and purchasing.
Rust has also served as controller for Governors State University, and controller/business manager for the Peoria Public School District 150, one of the largest districts in the state. She has nearly twenty years experience in the internal audit function and was the director of Internal Audit for the Illinois State Board of Education.
Prior to joining the Board of Education, Rust served as director of Internal Audit with the University of Illinois in Springfield; an external audit supervisor with the Teachers Retirement system; an audit officer with Midwest Finance Group, Inc., a banking firm; and investment banker for Farmers State and Trust Company.
Rust will assume the post July 15.

MyJJC Portal Launch to Start Summer 2010
The Division of Information Technology is pleased to announce the launch of the myJJC portal initiative. The myJJC portal will serve as the College's intranet, allowing everyone throughout the college to find online resources without having to search multiple places. We are expecting to release the myJJC portal to staff in the summer of 2010, faculty in the fall of 2010, and students in the spring of 2011. Previous to each release, we'll be offering training and working with each department to help introduce what will be a great benefit for Joliet Junior College. Benefits of the myJJC portal include:
· Improved communications to the college community; · Single sign-on to WebAdvisior/eResources, iCampus, email, Outlook calendar, Imaging, and Colleague - this means you'll only have to sign on once to have access to several of our major Web applications; · Easy and convenient access to information both on and off campus; · Targeted and personalized information; · Online collaborative workspaces for departments, committees, and other groups, with features such as document sharing, group calendars, discussion areas, announcements, and picture galleries;
· Strong integration into Datatel Colleague allowing users to see their notifications within their myJJC homepage.
More information, including a myJJCFAQ, is available at www.jjc.edu/info/myjjc. We look forward to answering any questions you may have about the upcoming project. Please feel free to forward your questions to webmaster@jjc.edu or call Dwayne Cable at ext. 6641.
