Message from Dr. Proulx
College Receives 3rd Quarter Payment
This week, the college unexpectedly received its third quarter payment from the state. As you know, the college receives approximately $8 million in state funding, which is delivered in four payments during the fiscal year.
While this is good news, we continue to monitor the state's uncertain fiscal situation closely and are working with our financial team to ensure that we are preparing a responsible FY11 budget. We are still two weeks away from Governor Quinn's March 10 budget address, which may answer some questions regarding the state's financial future and its impact on the college's state funding.
I will be in Springfield on March 16 to discuss next year's budget with the community college presidents and will keep you informed of any new information that I may glean. In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

Campus Center Takes Shape as Steel is Put in Place

New Campus Center construction photos
For many months now, the college's new Campus Center has been seen mostly through computer-generated renderings or more recently, as a big muddy hole in the ground. But this week, thanks to the erection of steel girders that will form the skeleton of the new building, the Campus Center is finally beginning to take shape. From the site of the old greenhouses between the A- and C-Buildings, erected steel is beginning to form the front of the building, which, when finished, will be considered the new front door of the Main Campus. The rear of the building is also beginning to take shape. A curved area, this section will serve as the back wall of the cafeteria. It can be seen from the temporary outdoor walkway connecting the A- and C-Buildings. In the front and the back, the footings for the building are being poured.
The Campus Center is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2011. Campus Center Web Cam

JJC Staff and Alumni Spotlight: Jeremy Richardson
In a busy office just yards away from the fitness center, Jeremy Richardson sits at his desk, his eyes lit with excitement as he recalls his most memorable moment as a football player--winning the last game of the 2000 season and conference title with the Fairmont State University Fighting Falcons. "It was the last home game of the season and we won the conference title. It was the first piece of jewelry I was looking forward to being fitted for, my most important piece of jewelry I've been fitted for," he jokes. "Other than my wedding ring." For the JJC graduate, the college meant more than classrooms and football practices. Attending JJC enabled him to continue his dream of playing college football, to live out his desire to become a coach, and even gave reality to his hopes of having a family.
Growing up in Bloomington, Ill., Richardson says he would watch as his brothers and uncles threw a football back and forth in the front yard. Too young to take part in the fun, he remembers sitting with his nose pressed up against the window, knowing one day he would join them.
