JJC Partners with Bradley University on Scholarship Agreement
Bradley to offer up to 20 competitive scholarships annually to JJC students
For JJC students, transferring to Bradley University in Peoria will be easier beginning in fall 2010 thanks to a new competitive scholarship.
Twenty JJC students will be eligible to receive $3,500 in financial aid each academic year through the Presidents Partnership Scholarship. When combined with other Bradley-funded awards, the new scholarship will provide up to $8,500 per year for qualified JJC students. Bradley President Joanne Glasser and JJC President Dr. Gena Proulx will sign the agreement on Dec. 14 at 11:30 a.m. on the Main Campus Bridge. The college community is invited to attend.

JJC Awarded National Safety Council's Highest Honor
JJC recently received The National Safety Council's Star Award--the council's highest honor--at its 45th Anniversary Defensive Driving Course Banquet in Orlando, Fla.
The college won the award for achievements that exceeded all other training centers in the DDC-4 Region. "We train more people in defensive driving than any other training center in Illinois," Amy Murphy, director of JJC's Corporate and Community Services division and supervisor of the Will County Traffic School, said. "Teaching people how to drive defensively is one of the most rewarding services we provide. All of us are proud to be recognized by the National Safety Council as one of the best among the best."

JJC Alumni and Staff Spotlight: Susi Mejia
Though her unit in the U.S. Army has taken her all over the country in the last decade, there's one place that's been a constant for Susi Mejia. "Joliet Junior College is my foundation," Mejia says on a recent fall afternoon. It's easy to see why.
The JJC graduate ('02) has been connected to the college since she first enrolled in 1996; first as a full-time student and Counseling Department student worker involved in clubs like Latinos Unidos and the JC Players, then as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant returning to finish her degrees. Now, Mejia has come full circle - she works in the college's Registration Office. "I like helping students--it's rewarding to be a part of someone's education," Mejia says. "Someone did that for me when I first came here, and I like knowing that I'm giving that positive experience back."
