Outdoor Area Between A- and C-Buildings to be Closed Nov. 16
The outdoor area between A- and C-Buildings will close the week of Nov. 16 in preparation for construction of the Campus Center. A new walkway is being constructed to provide access between the A- and C-Buildings. B-Building can be accessed from the south side entrance near V-Building or through the hallway in C-Building.
Please Note-B-Building Access 2nd floor: For students or staff members with disabilities who need to access the second floor of B-Building, you will need to take the elevator in T-Building to the second floor, and cross into the B-Building from the second floor of A-Building. The Marketing Office has created a map to help explain the changes. To help assist students and community members with this change, there will be greeters in place at each new entrance next week to help direct traffic and answer questions.

Construction Project Web Cams
View from the roof of the J-Building. A hydrodredge sucks sediment and water from the bottom of the lake. The mixture, called slurry, is then transported through the hose to a pipe aided by the blue pump, located near the J-Building ring road bridge. The sediment is then deposited in the drying pond located in the adjacent agriculture field. (Photo by Jeff Fisher)

Board Approves Venue Change for Spring Commencement At the Nov. 10 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved a change in venue for the spring 2010 commencement ceremony to Lewis University. The approval came after the college's graduation committee, under the leadership of Keith Tillman, registrar, and Susan Paddock, dean of enrollment management, spent the last year reviewing options for addressing overcrowding at commencement ceremonies. Paddock presented the committee's recommendation for a change in venue for the spring commencement at the Sept. 8 board meeting.

Mexican Heritage Exhibit Now on Display in the Library
National Museum of Mexican Art employees install the Mexican Chicago exhibit in the library on Nov. 9. (Photo by Ericka Wellner) A traveling exhibit created by the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA) is now on display in the JJC library through December 2009. The photographic exhibition, called Mexican Chicago, provides a 100-year historical overview of Mexican immigration to the area. According the museum, the growth of the Mexican population is one of the fastest demographic changes in U.S. history, with over 1.4 million Mexicans now living in metropolitan Chicago area. With that, the NMMA says, comes a need for exhibitions, Spanish-language curricula, and resources that meet the needs of the Mexican population and help the current population learn about the heritage and culture of their new neighbors. The exhibit has previously been on display in many cities in the region, including Waukegan, Elgin, West Chicago, and Blue Island, as well as at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. in 2006.

Planning the Annual Bridal Expo and Fashion Show
Students gain real world experience with Renaissance Center wedding planner
By Susie Stockwell, Renaissance Center supervisor and wedding planner
Since I began working at JJC in 1995, I have worked hard to bring weddings, banquets, and special events to the colleges Renaissance Center.
As the Renaissance Center supervisor and wedding planner, one thing I am honored to do is have students job shadow me for real life industry experience! My every day mantra at work comprises three simple things: I want to provide our students with unique, hands-on industry experience, successfully meet the needs and expectations of every bride in Will County, and develop inventive concepts for special activities at the historic Renaissance Center.
