Faculty Spotlight: Laura Egner Sitting in a grade school classroom, a young Laura Egner found herself without a book to read. Fumbling through her desk, she pulled out the only book she had - a mathematics textbook. It was then, in that quiet classroom, that Egner's love for numbers began. "I really enjoyed finding patterns and simply experimenting with [numbers], seeing what they could do and how," says Egner, now a JJC math professor. So when it came time, Egner made the decision to pursue a career in mathematics. She earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from Loyola University in 1980, and in 2007, earned an associate degree in applied arts in mathematics education from DePaul University. It was in between earning those two degrees that Egner came to Joliet Junior College.
