Master Plan and Campus Construction Update
Greenhouse Webcam
A webcam is now available on the master plan Web site providing a continuous live camera feed of the greenhouse construction site, which is located at the old farmstead near the corner of Houbolt Road and the exit road of Main Campus. Construction on the greenhouse facility is expected to finish in October 2009.
Beginning May 18, the outdoor walkway between the B-Building and the V-Building will be closed down for safety precautions as a new stairwell is built.
This construction will be completed as part of the Campus Center project and a temporary fence will be installed blocking off this sidewalk. Alternative routes will be clearly marked. In addition, classroom remodeling construction will begin on the 4th floor of the J-Building on May 17. Part of this project will involve the removal of flooring. Efforts are being investigated to control odor and air monitoring will remain an on-going process. There will be additional classroom, hallway and office remodeling throughout the summer. Please refer to the attached schedule to see when your area will be affected. Again, JJC is making every effort to keep the campus safe during construction.
If you have any questions, please contact Facility Services at ext. 2396.

Summer 2009 Parking Projects - Main Campus
The college will begin construction on parking lots beginning May 25. During summer 2009, the college will complete two parking projects to help alleviate issues associated with construction projects as part of the college's master plan. Phase One (May 25-July3) will involve the reconfiguration of North Lot 2, which is the student lot north of J-Building, and South Lot 1, which is the lot south of the C- and D-Buildings. Both lots will be closed during this time and will reopen on July 6.
Parking spaces for persons with disabilities currently located in North Lot 2 will be relocated to North Lot 1, the faculty/staff lot. Those spaces currently located in South Lot 1 will be relocated to South Lot 2. Phase Two (July 6-August 21) will involve the reconfiguration of East Lots 2 and 3, which are east of the T-Building. Both lots will be closed during this time and will reopen on August 24.
Parking spaces for persons with disabilities currently located in East Lots 2 and 3 will be relocated to the front rows of East Lot 4. Maps are available on the Master Plan Web site.

Baseball Team Heads to World Series Tourney May 16
Head Coach Wayne King Garners 800 Career Wins
The JJC baseball team won the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Region IV Division III championship game on Mother's Day against the College of DuPage, securing a spot in the upcoming national World Series tournament which begins May 16 in Tyler, Texas.
The team's win on May 10 also brought about a personal victory for Head Baseball Coach Wayne King, who garnered his 800th career win in 23 years at the college.
"Eight hundred wins is very humbling to me," King said. "It shows the quality student-athletes and coaches we have had here at JJC over these last 23 years. This is not something you can accomplish by yourself."
Under King, the Wolves won the NJCAA World Series in 1994 and in 2008.
During his tenure, four JJC players have been selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Amateur Draft, including 2008 shortstop, Ed Koncel, who is currently with the Texas Rangers organization.
Outfielder Brandon Howard, from the 2008 team, was named American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III Player of the Year, which no other player during King's tenure has ever been selected. He also set an NJCAA Division III record with 105 hits.
"The national tourney is always about who is playing well and getting some good bounces of the ball," he said. "We hope to have a good outing while we are in Texas and see how the cards fall."

24th Annual Employee Recognition Event Important Part of JJC's Core Values
Dear College Community, JJC is recognized as one of the most valuable resources in our community, and I know that this would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our employees. Recognition of employee service is an important part of our core values, and JJC is very fortunate to have employees who have given it many years of their professional lives to provide District 525 students with a supportive learning environment. During this annual employee recognition event, we not only acknowledge the dedication of individuals who continue to contribute to JJC with ongoing service, but we take time to recognize those who will retire in 2009. Their talents and skills have helped to grow and strengthen Joliet Junior College, and I thank them personally for their commitment and support. Congratulations also to the faculty and staff members who are receiving the Jo's Award for mirroring the college's Core Values of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, Humor and Well-Being, Innovation, and Quality.
Selected by their peers, this distinguished group of honorees exemplifies the overall objectives and goals of JJC and we are proud to have them as a part of our institution. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the senior staff and administrative team, I congratulate you on yet another successful JJC year. Best wishes to all for a wonderful summer's respite! Sincerely yours, Gena Proulx, Ph.D. President, Joliet Junior College Employees honored at the Employee Recognition event
