New in the JJC Library...
Tired of winter and snow? Visit the library to check out the new materials (movies, books and music) available for loan.
Pimsleur Language CD sets Hailed as the fastest language learning system, Pimsleur courses help people who need to speak another language quickly. These courses are now used by the FBI, CIA, and business professionals everywhere. Languages include Farsi, Japanese, Urdu, Spanish, Arabic, and more. New DVD titles
The library has added over 100 new titles in the DVD section since last year, including new docudramas and feature films. Staff rentals are free and for one week. New fiction and non fiction titles are readily available for review near the circulation desk and are labeled for easy identification.

7th Annual Senior Expo March 18 on Main Campus
Seniors of all ages are invited to attend the 7th Annual Senior Expo on March 18 on the Main Campus. The expo will be held in the D-Building from 9 a.m. to noon. Services at the event will include digital driver's license and state ID renewal by the Secretary of State's Office and health screenings by local health care facilities and providers, along with many vendors with free giveaways and door prizes. Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission Awards $25,000 to JJC
The JJC Foundation recently received $25,000 from Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission for five $5,000 scholarships. The Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission Scholarship Fund at the college will provide financial awards for students in any of JJC's technical or health-related programs and who live in the zip codes of 60432, 60433 and 60436 on the east side of Joliet, where the hospital is located. Silver Cross Hospital, a not-for-profit health care provider, has been creating world-class health care experiences for the southwest suburban communities for over a century.
Silver Cross has been recognized as one of our nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson for four consecutive years and as one of America's Most Customer Friendly Hospitals by the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers. Culinary Arts Awarded Seven Year Accreditation
The JJC associate degree program in culinary arts has been awarded a seven year accreditation by the accrediting commission of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation. Chef Michael McGreal, JJC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Department chair, said this is the longest accreditation given by the commission. Normally, McGreal said, program accreditations are between three and five years. There are only five other schools in the country that have JJC's seven-year accreditation. Help Recruit Students for Student Trustee Seat
If you know of a student who may be interested in running for student trustee, please encourage them to pick up candidacy information.
Candidacy materials will be accepted starting March 16 through March 23.
There are several locations to pick up the information booklet: the Office of Student Activities on the Main Campus Bridge, at the North Campus main office, the City Center reception office, or the Morris main office.

JJC Non-Fiction Book Club Meetings and Book List
The new JJC Non-Fiction Book Club will meet on Friday afternoons beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The following is a list of the selected titles and meeting dates:
March 6: "The Rise of the Creative Class" April 3: "Sick: The Untold Story of America's Health Care Crisis" May 1: "Freakonomics" June 12: "Our Space: Resisting the Corporate Control of Culture" July 10: "Filth: Dirt, Disgust and Modern Life"
Involvement in the book club does not have to be inclusive. Those interested are more than welcome to pick and choose dates that fit their calendar.

Severe Weather Spotter Training Offered in March
Severe weather spotter training instructed by the National Weather Service will be offered on the following dates in the following locations: Wednesday, March 11, Shorewood Village Hall Board Room, 10 a.m.
Tuesday, March 17, New Lenox Village Hall Community Room 10 a.m.
Tuesday, March 17, Crete Township Hall, 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, Plainfield Law Enforcement Center, 7 p.m.
The Severe Weather Spotter Training is a two-hour, basic course in recognizing and identifying severe storms capable of producing damaging winds, tornadoes, heavy rain, and hail. Course topics also include procedures for reporting severe weather to appropriate agencies so warnings may be issued to the public. There is no cost to attend one of these sessions. Seating is limited.Call (815)-740-8351 to reserve a space.

Faculty, Staff Recognition
* Congratulations to John Koepke, instructor in the Technical Department, who was awarded a graduate-level certificate in bioinformatics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. The curriculum consisted of three courses related to gene/protein sequencing, genome analysis, molecular modeling and principles, and applications of microarray.
