JJC Professor to Give First Performance of Composer's New Chamber Work March 8

LileyJJC Music Professor Dr. Thomas Liley will give the first-ever performance of American composer Claude Baker's new chamber piece, "Burlesque," at the March 8 Musica Viva Concert in the Fine Arts Theatre at 3 p.m.

Baker, an award-winning composer and professor of music at Indiana University, will be present at the performance.

The JJC performance on March 8 is a prelude to the piece's official unveiling in Bangkok in July, which Liley will perform as well.

Liley said "Burlesque" is a chamber work for saxophone, violin, cello, and piano.

"[Burlesque] is a look at the past and present," Liley said. "He evokes the music of Mozart, Liszt, and the 20th century composer George Rochberg and he pieces it together in a way that I think the audience will find interesting."
