Distance Education Dept. is now called iCampus

iCampusThe Distance Education Department has been renamed iCampus to provide students with a more identifiable brand while modernizing the image of the department.

The decision to rename the department came from the 2008-2011 Distance Education strategic planning process, and was developed in collaboration with the Distance Education Advisory Committee with input from the Senior Leadership Team.

As part of this change, the ANGEL course management system has also been redesigned to incorporate the iCampus theme. There are also plans to add new features to the ANGEL system in the near future, including tighter integration with online library databases and other college resources.

Online learning at JJC has grown in recent years. From the fall 2007 semester to the fall 2008 semester, the number of students enrolling in at least one Web-based course increased nearly 30 percent.

New Grant Funds Sustainable Energy Program at JJC

Thanks to a $73,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), JJC will offer building and HVAC professionals the kind of training they need to construct and install energy-efficient homes, factories, office buildings, and other commercial properties.

"We're very excited about this program," Amy Murphy, director of JJC's Corporate and Community Services, said. "We partnered with the Technical Department to put together a program that will help people in the trade learn the latest technologies for both residential and commercial energy systems."

The program will teach industry professionals the use of green technology in the building trades. Both credit and non-credit courses are available. The courses will be offered starting this month.
