Campus Center Design Presented at Board Meeting
The new rendering of the Campus Center. It is different in appearance than the original concept presented earlier this year because the building design needed to change to meet needs identified by the college's programming committees.
Legat Architects presented the schematic design of the college's new campus center at the December Board of Trustees meeting, describing the building to trustees as a sustainable, one-stop student services facility that would ultimately become the new front door to the JJC Main Campus. Jeff Sronkoski, principal at Legat, said the firm designed the three-story building to maximize student services, streamline the enrollment process, promote retention, and focus on student success.
"The focus here is on student success--that is what this building is all about," Sronkoski said. The building, which will be constructed between the A-Building and C-Building and maintain the college's current white stucco façade, will house all student services, the bookstore and the cafeteria on the first floor; the library on the second floor; and administrative offices on the third floor.

Student Audit Finds More Recyclables Land in Trash
Members of student government with JJC employees Linda Pollock, Adam Heidenreich, Pam Dilday, and Ed Vasil holding bags of recyclable materials found in a day's worth of trash on the Main Campus.
Volunteers from JJC's Student Government conducted a trash audit on Dec. 4 in an effort to determine how much recyclable material was found in regular trash bins across the Main Campus. With the help of Linda Pollock, custodial superintendent in Facility Services and advisers Adam Heidenreich and Pam Dilday, several volunteers sorted through one day's worth of trash collected from various points on campus. Of the eight 40-gallon bags that were collected and sorted, over half of the materials-which amounted to five filled bags-were recyclable materials.

Donate Items to the JJC Community Giving Tree
For over 15 years, JJC employees have organized a project called the JJC Community Giving Tree around the holidays that collects items to donate to area agencies like the Guardian Angel Home and Morning Star Mission.
The JJC Community Giving Tree is located near the Fine Arts Theatre. Participation is simple: select an ornament from the tree and return the ornament with the unwrapped donations.
Giving Tree organizer Patricia Shue of the Mathematics Department said that gifts should be returned prior to Dec. 17, so that members of Phi Theta Kappa and the JJC Volunteer Club can distribute the items to agencies before the holidays.
