JJC to Offer New Study Abroad Program to Morocco
Tangier, Morocco
While providing affordable, quality programs and services to better serve its community, JJC continues to actively build a robust international program. That's why, starting this fall, JJC will be the first community college in the state to offer a study abroad program to Morocco. "There are many reasons this is an important component of our international program here--namely because Morocco maintains a friendly relationship with the United States, which makes it an ideal place for American students to study Muslim culture," Cristobal Trillo (right), coordinator of the program and professor in the English and World Languages Department, said. JJC is partnering with the American School of Tangier to provide this opportunity. Founded in 1950, the school will provide classrooms, housing and other facilities for the students. Trillo has a special connection with Morocco and Tangier--he was born and raised in the city of nearly 700,000, which is nestled in the northern-most tip of the country. Trillo's parents, however, are from Spain and so Trillo grew up surrounded by Spanish custom and tradition, which he said allowed him a greater awareness of diverse cultures at a young age. Choose the Design for the New College Viewbook
This week, the JJC community received emails from Carnegie Communications, an independent market research and creative services firm that works exclusively with colleges and universities.
The JJC Marketing and Publications Office has partnered with Carnegie to produce a new college viewbook. The marketing office is looking for feedback from faculty, staff, students, and prospective students on two design concepts for this viewbook, which are described in the email.
Giving feedback is easy--just click on the link in the email to view the two concepts and complete the short survey.
For questions, contact Andrea Lehmacher, director of marketing, at alehmach@jjc.edu.

Faculty, Staff Awards and Recognition
* Karl Brooks, dean of student success, has been selected as a co-chair for the National Leadership Symposium. The symposium brings together leadership educators and scholars from around the country to engage in a topic and curriculum of study, which intentionally supports undergraduate student leadership development.
 * Philip Spencer, professor of music, took the national choir he formed in 2006, the Lutheran Youth Choir of North America, on a 12-day tour of Germany this summer. The 22 auditioned high school students from nine different states across the U.S. performed in seven German cities, including singing in the largest church in the German capital Berlin, and made a recording in Luther's church in Eisleben. In addition to the choral repertoire, Spencer also composed a new liturgy in English and German for the choir to sing on the tour, "Evening Prayer for Peace," which incorporates quotations about world peace by various authors together with the traditional vesper texts.
