Staffers Perform to Benefit Student Fund

When you think about college bands, you think of Athens, Ga and REM or Seattle, Wash. and Nirvana.
More than likely you think of college kids. But what if some of the coolest bands on campus counted faculty and staff as members?
That's what JJC students will find out as professors and staff ditch the briefcases to shred on guitars at the JJC Music Fest on Friday, Aug. 29, at 5 p.m.

An FAQ on the JJC Master Plan

How will the master plan be funded?
In FY09, the college will issue student fee-backed bonds supported by a $9 capital assessment fee added to student tuition and fees for fall 2008. This will fund $70 million of JJC's $220 million master plan.
The college will also ask voters to approve an $89 million building-bond referendum on the November ballot to fund other projects. This question will be on the ballot for voters in the Illinois Community College District 525, which includes the counties of Will, Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle, Kankakee, Livingston, and Cook.

JJC Lake Clean-Up Update
The JJC Lake clean-up project continues to be on hold as the college waits for a permit from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA).
The college's engineering firm submitted a permit application to the IEPA, which was denied. The IEPA denied the permit based on concerns it has with runoff from sediment that will be dredged from the lake as part of the project.

Construction Around Campus: Updates
We would like to give you an update on several construction projects at the college that are either ongoing or completed.
1. Installation of emergency phones in parking lots - in progress
The existing yellow box phones have been replaced in all lots and additional phones have been added in the J-Building parking lots. The new phones are identical to the Code Blue phones located in the northeast parking lot. These phones feature a blue light to help locate the phones and a strobe light to identify the location of an emergency call. Finishing work on this project will be completed by Aug. 21.

This week, brochures outlining the college's new strategic plan were distributed to all employees.
The result of 15 months of hard work by a diverse cross-section of the college community, the strategic plan outlines JJC's institutional direction--and how the college will anticipate and respond to major decisions facing it--over the next three to five years.
"A strategic plan is an articulation of what we as an institution value. While being intentional and engaging in thoughtful planning is obviously important in meeting student and stakeholder needs, it should also be stressed that communicating the strategic plan and implementation of the plan is extremely important," Ryan Smith, vice president of Institutional Advancement and Research, said.
