Chlebana Named National Pastry Chef of the Year

**Due to an error in submitted information, the start of Chef Chlebana's tenure at the college was incorrect in the first story. He started at JJC in January 2006.

JJC Culinary Arts faculty member Andy Chlebana is now the top pastry chef in the country after being named National Pastry Chef of the Year at the American Culinary Federation's (ACF) national convention in Las Vegas.

The award recognizes a pastry chef who has displayed a passion for the craft, has an accomplished reputation in the pastry field and has given back through the education of others by sharing his or her skills and knowledge. Chlebana, of Plainfield, competed against three others for the title.

Chlebana, a certified executive pastry chef (CEPC), began teaching at JJC in January 2006 as a pastry chef and an associate professor. He is also employed as a pastry chef for White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville.

Richardson Named New Football Head Coach

RichardsonFormer Joliet Junior College football player and assistant coach Jeremy Richardson was named head coach of the college's football team July 1.

Richardson, 29, succeeds Tom Minnick, who resigned in June to take a coaching position at Arizona Western College. Richardson was an assistant coach for the Wolves under Minnick for the 2007 season, and helped that team to become the Midwest Football Conference Eastern Division Champions, Region IV Champions and Graphic Edge Printing Bowl Champions.

"Jeremy will do a fine job," Wayne King, JJC athletic director, said. "He works hard and is very serious about his job."

This is Richardson's first head coaching position. A 1998 JJC alum, he said he is more excited than nervous about his new appointment, adding that his experience and familiarity with the college helps him relate to the players.

Agriculture Building to Get New Name Aug. 12

MaxKusterThe agriculture building at Joliet Junior College will officially be named the Max H. Kuster Agricultural and Horticultural Center on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 5 p.m. at a dedication ceremony honoring the man who is recognized as the founding father of agriculture programs at the college.

The ceremony will be held at the A-Building on the Main Campus, and includes a plaque presentation and speech from JJC President Gena Proulx. Those interested in attending should RSVP by Aug. 4.

It was former JJC President J.D. Ross that suggested to the JJC Board of Trustees that the current A-Building be renamed in honor of Max H. Kuster, who is recognized as the founder of agriculture programs at JJC.

Career Seekers Awarded $481,150 Grant

**Due to an editor's error, Career Seekers was incorrectly identified in the first story.

Career Seekers was recently awarded a $481,150 grant from the Workforce Investment Board of Will County and the County of Will for this fiscal year.

This year's grant marks a $75,000 increase from last year's grant. Career Seekers is a program to provide academic and employment assistance to out-of-school youth.

It provides members with assistance in achieving academic and employment success through skill-building activities, effective connections with employers, and ongoing support. Members develop leadership skills, learn how to make good decisions and grow as citizens.

"The program really helps the economically disadvantaged youth in the area, allowing them to have the opportunity to come into a safe environment every day while gaining not only valuable educational skills but valuable work readiness skills as well," Jami Boyd, manager, JJC workforce development, said.

"Without the Career Seekers program, many of our students would never have the opportunity to complete their high school education or get a legitimate job to become contributing members to society."
