Y.E.S. Book Drive

Children's books

Inspired by the generous spirit of Sara Crewe in A Little Princess, Y.E.S. is sponsoring our first book drive at all performances.

If you would like to donate a new or gently used book, suitable for any age from 0 to 10, we will be collecting them on behalf of our neighbor the Venice Family Clinic, so that young patients can take home a book of their own. You can click to view a list of suggested titles in Spanish or English, but all titles are welcome.

Frances Hodgson Burnett

Frances Hodgson Burnett (pictured) began writing professionally at age 18 and became well-known for stories and books for adults. Her first book for children was Little Lord Fauntleroy in 1886. Sara Crewe, or What Happened at Miss Minchin's first appeared as a play and then as a short novel in 1888. Burnett revised and expanded the story in 1905 as A Little Princess. It has become one of the best loved children's books published in the English language. In both A Little Princess and The Secret Garden, themes of imagination, generosity, and self-healing are evident.
