Sharing Good News!

There is just too much good news to wait for the regular December issue of Behind the Curtain.

Grants!
We received TWO grants from the City of Santa Monica, to My Father's Dragonsupport the Mainstage production of Fences and the Y.E.S. production of My Father's Dragon, both scheduled for the first half of 2009. The panel reviewing grant applications commented, "We need community theatres in L.A."

Award!
We were recognized for our participation in the annual Pico Art Pico Improvement OrganizationWalk with a Third Place award for Best Demonstration, for the public rehearsal of Bye Bye Birdie. SMTG Member Lois Bostwick accepted the award on our behalf at a meeting this week of the Pico Improvement Organization.

Blog!
Santa Monica Connect profiled the Morgan-Wixson Theatre for  Santa Monica Connectthe second time, focusing on the importance of volunteers and highlighting Bambi Martins, a member of our Marketing Committee. To read this flattering article, click here.

Auditions!
This week Y.E.S. held auditions for A Little Princess Y.E.S. logo(opening 1/31/09), drawing over 90 youth and adult actors, more than any other literature-based Y.E.S. play to date. Not coincidentally, we had more people sign up for our email notification system this week than in any other week since inception. Thank you to everyone who helps spread the word about Y.E.S. and Mainstage.

Elections!
The new Board of Directors (see left sidebar) was selected last Ballot boxweek at the Annual Meeting. Voting for the Board is one of the benefits of membership in Santa Monica Theatre Guild. There are only 40 days remaining in 2008 to take that tax deduction! For information on becoming a member, click here.
