FREE Membership in Bike Cleveland!
In celebration of Bike To Work Week, bike buyers can roll away with more than just a new ride at Century Cycles. This week, we're offering to pay the individual membership dues in Bike Cleveland (a $35 value) for anyone who buys a bicycle of $500 or more from our stores in Rocky River, Medina, and Peninsula from May 14-18, 2012. Here's how it works: Bike Cleveland membership forms will be offered to buyers of bikes $500 or more at all three Century Cycles stores. Once completed, the forms and dues payment will be submitted by Century Cycles. If someone prefers a family membership at $60, they simply pay the $25 difference and that membership level will be processed for them. Now is a great time to join Bike Cleveland, Greater Cleveland's bicycle advocacy organization working to build livable communities by promoting all forms of cycling and advocating for the rights and equality of the cycling community. To learn more about Bike Cleveland, Cleveland Bike Month, and all the activities planned for Bike To Work Day on Friday, May 18, go to www.bikecleveland.org.

Pajama Party Night Ride on the Towpath Trail As Cleveland Bicycle Month is being observed all over Northeast Ohio this month, by popular demand, we again celebrate with our Pajama Party Night Ride on the Towpath Trail! The ride starts at 8pm this Saturday, May 19 at our Peninsula store. Wear your favorite sleepwear (helmets STILL required), and enjoy pajama-party themed snacks at the ride turn-around! Like all of our regularly-scheduled Night Rides on the Towpath Trail, this ride is FREE and open to all! We will, however, be collecting donations for Project Night Night - please bring a new children's book, stuffed animal, or small flannel blanket to the Night Ride and they will be used to create nighttime comfort packages for homeless children. |
Ronald McDonald House Night Ride on the Towpath Trail
On June 2, 2012, join us for a very special Night Ride on the Towpath Trail to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland. Last year's RMH Night Ride brought our Night Rides to Cuyahoga County for the very first time, and it was such a success, we're bringing it back this year! The ride begins at 8pm at Thornburg Station at Rockside and Canal Roads in Valley View. There will be snacks provided at the ride turn-around point, and free t-shirts to the first 200 registered riders! All skill levels are welcome for the casual, fun 12-mile ride. The cost is $20/person in advance, or $25/person on-site at the event. All proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland. For more details, including online registration, and links to Night-Riding tips, photos, and videos:

Where We Ride: Ken's Rocky River - Vermilion Voyage
Ken Hagedorn is an avid road cyclist from the staff of our Rocky River store. He suggested this 30-mile (60 miles round-trip) route as a way to get from Rocky River out to Vermilion, and you can extend it beyond there if you're headed to other points west.
The route follows US Route 6 (Lake Road), much of it along the shore of Lake Erie, with some detours on side roads to avoid some of the less bike-friendly areas of the lake shore road.

Bike To School Challenge
Hundreds of area students have been bicycling to school for our 2012 Bike To School Challenge (BTSC) on May 7-25 and now YOU can join them for a chance to win a new bicycle from our fellow BTSC sponsor, Raleigh Bicycles! Simply go to Raleigh's website www.myreasonstoride.com and submit a video about what riding a bicycle means to you. Tag your submission with "CenturyBTS" and the most compelling video will win a Raleigh Revenio 3.0 road bike (retail: $1,299.99), awarded in early June when the video will also be highlighted on the website. Click here to read the complete press release for contest details.
The BTSC program is now in its second week, and we tip our bike helmets to these amazing students who have biked rain or shine! Bay Middle School (pictured at left) has logged the highest ride day so far, counting 548 bikes on May 11 - a whopping 69% of the school! BTSC runs through May 25, for the first time at Root and Claggett Middle Schools in Medina, back for its second year at Rocky River Middle School, and returning for its 5th year at Bay Village High and Middle Schools. The three-week challenge strives to incentivize over 4,000 students to ride their bikes to school as much as possible - to help the environment, save gas, improve their health, and inspire their parents and the community to use a bicycle for short trips around town.

Take our latest online poll!
Many of our area's shared-use trails can be quite crowded, especially on weekends. Even for experienced riders, an audible signal is helpful (not to mention courteous) to navigate past other riders, walkers, and runners. Do you use a bell or horn? Click here to take our latest online poll and let us know!
Last month's poll asked, "What is your favorite part of a Night Ride on the Towpath Trail?" The top answer, with over 50% of the vote, was "The thrill of riding at night." Tied for second place were "Riding with friends" and "Post-ride refreshments at the Winking Lizard." You can see the full results of the last poll here.
