5 Tips: Preparing for and Riding in a Multi-Day Bicycle Tour

Great Ohio Bicycle AdventureThe folks here at Century Cycles are busy packing our support van and preparing to help out the riders during the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure this coming week. If you're not riding on GOBA, maybe you're training for the Pan Ohio Hope Ride or the Bike MS Pedal to the Point.

Whether you are riding for a charity or just for fun, the following 5 Tips will help you get ready for your next multi-day bike event, and help you enjoy yourself more during the ride!
  1. Train by building up your mileage gradually.
  2. Make sure your bicycle is tuned up and in good working order.
  3. When choosing what gear to pack, find a good balance between comfort and convenience.

Mike McClintock Rides RAAM!

Mike McClintockMike McClintock of Wooster is riding in the solo division of the Race Across America (RAAM). He left Oceanside, CA last Wednesday, June 15, and has already biked over 500 miles, some of it through 104-degree heat. As the Rocky Mountains loom ahead, Mike has 2,500 miles to go before the races ends in Annapolis, MD.

Century Cycles is honored to be one of Mike McClintock's RAAM sponsors and is proud that Tom Wiseman, Assistant Service Manager in our Medina store, is on his crew. Tom's technical skills have already been valuable - while Mike was sleeping night before last, Tom converted the gearing on Mike's bike to help him climb more efficiently.

What We Ride: Andrew Copenhaver
Now that the April (and May) showers are finally behind us, the mountain bike trails have had a chance to dry off and be ridable. Andrew Copenhaver is on the Century Cycles staff at the Medina store, and he loves taking his '09 Giant XTC 1 out to ride (and race) on all of the local trails. Read more about what Andrew likes about his bike, plus the custom upgrades he's made to it, in this article:

How many Century Cycles Night Rides have you biked? How many Century Cycles Night Rides have you biked?

We're looking forward to the Pajama Party Night Ride on the Towpath Trail on June 25, and we hope you are, too! Will this be your first Night Ride, or are you a Night Riding veteran? Let us know by taking our latest online poll.

With last month's Night Ride postponed due to rainy and stormy weather, we asked the question, "When is it too rainy for you to ride?'" The results were fairly mixed, with 33% of the respondents saying "Light, steady rain," and 30% saying "Monsoon-like heavy downpour." 9% said "It's never too rainy for me to ride." You can see the full results of the last poll here.
