Planning for the Future

Quality of Place grantees and funders have a meeting of the minds

Participants at EFN planning event, Feb 8, 2011Funders and grantees met February 8 in Augusta for a day of learning and networking, and to explore opportunities for working together in the final half of the initiative. In her welcoming remarks, EFN Chair Lynne Seeley said, "EFN wasn't scripted when we started out, and our hunch was right: we're on to something." Embrace Our Natural Assets

Governor LePage hears from Maine people

At a Roundtable on Maine People and the Environment in late January, Governor Paul LePage listened to brief remarks from a range of individuals, from business owners and homebuilders to farmers and fishermen. "Embrace our natural assets for their role in small, sustainably managed businesses," urged Ruth Mclaughlin, co-owner of the Blair Hill Inn in Greenville. "We need a healthy environment for Maine's brand," echoed Chad Coffin, president of the Maine Clammers Association. The Roundtable was organized by the Natural Resources Council of Maine.

New Networking for Bethel Area

An energized collaborative is building connections

The Bethel Area Nonprofit Collaborative (BANC) has worked for more than two years studying collaborative models, developing an inventory of nonprofit organizations, organizing community forums, and developing plans for an online nonprofit network. Through its fiscal sponsor, the Mahoosuc Land Trust, BANC recently received $24,000 through the Quality of Place Initiative to support a network facilitator.
