Carrying Beautiful Things: Three Striking Global Vocalists Unite for Live@365's Opening Night

Three women, baring their music in an intimate space, exploring the intersection of borders, the unexpected resonances-where William Blake meets Native America, where Balkan boldness meets jazz finesse, where Haitian roots meet international vibes.
Live@365 (liveat365.org) will leap into a new season at Manhattan's Elebash Hall, with an evening showcasing three intense, playful vocalists from diverse corners of the world: Martha Redbone (who takes her Native American roots into neo-soul and old literature); the vocally nimble Haitian singer Emeline Michel; and the Bulgarian roots- and jazz-inspired Vlada Tomova.
Though diverse in their backgrounds and approaches, the three singers joined by a duo or trio, will be united in their approach of crossing musical boundaries. They will also find a common thread in their use of Elebash's acoustic environment, which encourages close interaction between the performer on stage and the listener in the hall.
"I am thrilled and honored to share the stage with such inspirational women," exclaims Redbone. "There is something very special about the fact that we (three) incorporate our culture into our music, our people like to call it 'coming home.' The beautiful performance space at Elebash is the perfect intimate setting for three women 'coming home'."
"We carry all these beautiful things we've inherited from our background and that's what we want to bring to the world. That's our dream, though it's a bittersweet mission," Tomova reflects. "We all have a similar message, and I'm really looking forward to performing together. I'm really curious to see what we come up."
"What matters the most in a performance is how the audience will leave the room: fed ,uplifted, or connected," muses Michel. "The stage is a circle we share, both artist and the audience, a breathing open space, for dreams, enlightenment, and infinite gratitude."

The Graduate Center is the primary doctorate-granting institution of the City University of New York (CUNY).
